The modern lighting market is able to satisfy the most unusual requests and choose a model that best suits any needs. The main types of ceiling lighting fixtures include:
- Chandeliers.
- Spotlights.
- Track systems.
- Flexible lighting devices (LED and neon strips, duralight cords).
When choosing the type of lighting, you need to take into account the technical parameters of the room: its height and total area. Do not forget about the purpose of the room: a children's room needs bright light that allows the child to learn and play, and it is better to leave lamps with a soft muted glow for the bedroom.
Chandeliers
Chandeliers are the most popular type of lighting in an apartment. They are found in almost any home, they are easy to install and practical. Manufacturers produce models that correspond to various interior styles: from calm classics to futuristic high-tech. The main types of chandeliers are as follows:
- Suspension chandeliers consisting of one or more shades suspended on a chain or cord. Suspensions are equipped with shades made of glass, fabric, plastic, which allows them to be used in rooms with different functionality;
- Ceiling, when fastening to the ceiling is carried out using a strip or platform. Ceiling chandeliers are great for rooms of small height and area. Among the disadvantages can be noted the need to remove the plafond to replace a burned out light source.
In addition to the classic models, a large number of original and modern LED ice chandeliers for ceiling mounting have appeared on the market. They are distinguished by a long service life, which does not require frequent replacement of lamps, which greatly facilitates the operation of the lighting fixture.
Classic. This is the most common type of chandelier. They represent a multi-lamp structure made of metal with shades of glass, fabric, crystal. Such chandeliers can be very impressive in size. Attachment to the ceiling is carried out overhead, for example, on a hook
Spotlights
They are used both for decorative lighting and as the main light sources. They are installed in a single copy to highlight a certain object or groups in the interior. In one room, a combination of several types of ceiling lighting is possible, for example, installation of spotlights and chandeliers. They complement each other perfectly, allowing you to create different lighting scenarios in the room.
By the method of installation, there are:
Surface mounted spotlights are a combination of a diffuser and a mounting plate. They are attached directly to the ceiling surface. Most often, overhead models are used when it is not possible to make a hole for the inset model
Recessed or recessed luminaires are installed on any surface that has a free cavity. These can be plasterboard ceilings, stretch ceilings, furniture, decking for terraces in country houses, steps of stairs, etc. This type of lighting fixture is the most common. Suspended. In this case, the housing with the diffuser is suspended with a decorative cable at a distance from the mounting plate
Lamps of various types can be used in spotlights:
- Incandescent lamps. They provide eye-pleasing light and are very inexpensive, but require frequent replacement and consume a lot of electricity. An incandescent recessed luminaire requires a larger hole depth for installation due to its size.
- Halogen. Available in two versions: 220 V and 12 V. In this case, for a luminaire with a low-voltage lamp, it will be necessary to find a place to install a step-down transformer. Such lamps last longer than conventional incandescent lamps and are more energy efficient, but during operation they are subject to strong heating, which does not allow them to be used on certain surfaces.
- LED bulbs. They are rapidly gaining popularity due to their characteristics: long service life, low power consumption, lack of heating during operation. The main disadvantage of LEDs is only their high price. But it has also tended to decrease in recent years due to the expansion of production volumes.
Spotlights differ in the possibility of adjusting the luminous flux:
- non-rotating are a monolithic body with a clearly directed stream of light;
- rotary have the ability to adjust the angle of inclination, due to the presence of moving parts.
Track systems
This is a fairly new type of lighting fixture among apartment lighting options. Tracking systems were originally used in sales areas and office premises, but are now actively used in residential interiors. The design is a system of luminaires located on a busbar - a metal rail 1-3 m long. The rails are connected in the desired combination using connecting elements of various shapes: straight, L-shaped, cruciform, rectangular.
The track is attached directly to the ceiling or descends to the required height on cables. Lighting devices of different types can be assembled on one busbar. For example, when creating a lighting system in a kitchen, you can install pendant lights above the dining table, spotlights above work surfaces, and ambient light fixtures as general lighting. An annoying device or even the whole combination can be easily replaced with others, without much effort giving the interior a novelty.
Track systems are available for 12 V and 220 V. The latter are easy to install and, if used correctly, are as safe as low voltage ones.
Flexible luminaires
LED strips, duralight cords, flexible neon tubes are used for decorative ceiling lighting. They can be installed under the stretch fabric, between the levels of the plasterboard ceiling, located behind special skirting boards. The most attractive feature of flexible backlighting is LED strip. It is easy to install on your own and is reliable, durable and low in power consumption. With proper installation, ice tape will last for many years without requiring maintenance.
When planning the lighting of the ceiling, it should be remembered that it serves only a decorative role. Therefore, it is necessary to think over what kind of lighting in the rooms of the apartment will be the main one.
The choice of lamps depending on the type of ceiling
When deciding which lighting is best to use for the ceiling in a particular room, you need to consider the type of ceiling structure.
- A suspended plasterboard ceiling most often involves the installation of spotlights around the perimeter or a predetermined contour, as well as backlighting with LED strips. In addition, it is possible to use different models of chandeliers. Lightweight options are hung on a hook, while heavy chandeliers are best installed using anchors.
- The best option for concrete or wood ceilings is a variety of chandeliers. In this case, you can safely use the heaviest models, since the attachment hook will hold securely in wood and concrete. Installing embedded point models, however, can be very difficult and should be avoided.
- The choice of a lighting fixture for a stretch ceiling is due to the risk of deformation of the canvas under the influence of heat or weight. Fixing the fixtures to the film itself is impossible, in which case it will simply break. Before installing the stretch ceiling, it is necessary to prepare special seats for spotlights or install a hook for attaching the chandelier. It is better to choose LED lamps as a light source, since, unlike incandescent and halogen lamps, they do not cause heating of the stretch fabric, which reduces the risk of its deformation to zero.
If the stretch ceiling is made of glossy PVC, the number of fixtures will visually double due to reflection. And when installing a multi-level structure with ice backlighting, the gloss will "show" all the flaws in the installation of the LED strip.
