In the hustle and bustle of modern life, the bathroom performs not only a functional load, but also helps to relax and relieve stress after hard working days. Due to the fact that most of the high-rise buildings were built in Soviet times, all apartments were rewarded with a small bathroom. Moreover, sometimes the layout of a 3 m² bathroom does not allow placing all the necessary appliances in one room. In order for a small bathroom to be able to accommodate everything that is needed, it is necessary to correctly plan its layout.

How to plan your bathroom space: examples
The main challenge when planning a small bathroom is to achieve two goals: comfort and functionality. After all, the bathroom is the place where a person gains strength in the morning, and in the evening gets rid of negativity and relieves tension.
The issue of bathroom planning must be approached with responsibility: every centimeter of the space used is important here. At the moment, there are several options for the layout of bathrooms, in which a bathroom and a toilet are combined.
The first option involves using a shower instead of a bathroom bowl. This move is by far the most popular. There is no need to tear down walls or enlarge the room. Thanks to this layout of a small bathroom with a toilet, space is freed up for other plumbing fixtures.
Here, the shower stall is located at the opposite wall from the door. Next is the toilet and sink. The heated towel rail is on the wall opposite the toilet.
In this type of layout, all the necessary recommendations for the distance of the devices from each other must be observed. For example, in this version, the toilet is located in line with the sink, so the layout of a small combined bathroom leaves a fairly large space in front of the toilet and shower.
This layout has the only drawback - the small capacity of the shower cabin. However, if this factor is not decisive when choosing this plumbing fixture, then you can safely embody such a layout in the room.

The second type also involves the layout of a small bathroom with a shower, but in this version its location is on the other side of the bathroom. In this version, the toilet is placed to the left opposite the front door, after which a sink is installed along the wall line, and then a shower stall. The location of the washbasin with a mirror directly opposite the door creates visual comfort, since the toilet is slightly hidden on the left, and it is impossible to see it without entering the bathroom.
This variant of the layout of a combined bathroom of 3 m² has its drawback - there is not enough space for fixing a heated towel rail, in this case it can be installed only to the left of the toilet. Such a place will not be the best, since towels and linen hung on the device can fall to the floor if someone touches them with a shoulder.

And finally, the third option, which is the most optimal, is the use of a corner shower with a shortened base. This option would be suitable even for a 3 m² bathroom, the layout of which would not leave room for a regular shower.
Here it is proposed to place the shower room directly opposite the entrance to the bathroom, and place the toilet and sink against the wall, which is located to the right of the entrance. In this case, there will be a sufficient amount of space at the exit from the shower room, and the impression of a free center of the room will be created.

Such layout options for a small bathroom are suitable in the case of a standard rectangular room. If the bathroom of 3 m² has additional corners or contains built-in niches, the layout should be selected individually.

Design solutions for a small bathroom
Due to the small area, restrictions are created for choosing the color of the interior in the layout of a 3 m² bathroom, the main goal of which will be to visually expand the space. As you know, light colors visually increase the room well. Also, designers recommend using cold colors for the same purpose - to increase the area. Nuances that will refine a small bathroom:
- If you have an idea to make a strict design, then you need to pay attention to small details: fittings, mirror design, accessories - all this should be white or black, and also be made of metal. This technique will awaken the working spirit at the beginning of the day.
- The color of plumbing in the layout of a small combined bathroom does not have to be white. Today, the modern plumbing fixtures market offers model options from black to bright colors - it all depends on the planned interior style.
- The abundance of glass and mirror elements will help make the room larger. If the room allows the layout of a small bathroom with a shower, then the doors of this plumbing fixture can be made of glass. The glass does not have to be transparent, but it is better that the drawing or decor covers only a third of the sliding doors of the booth.

If funds permit, you can install a mirrored ceiling - such a maneuver will definitely add visual volume to the room, as well as bring elegance to the layout of a small bathroom with a toilet.
Lighting also plays an important role in the interior of a small bath. The key to success in such a room is the presence of a large number of light bulbs.
The most suitable option is to use ceiling spotlights.
However, do not forget that reflective surfaces in the room will cause discomfort with an abundance of light elements.
For the rational use of space, you can resort to tricks in the form of non-standard plumbing placement. For example, a variant of the layout of a combined bathroom may imply the presence of suspended installations, a washbasin without a leg, and other tricks.

Tips for choosing finishes
The choice of finishing materials for planning a small bathroom with a toilet also has its own nuances, including:
- Walls and ceilings are preferable to finish with waterproof paint or embossed putty. It is also possible to use water-repellent wallpaper. All these options allow you not to lose space with an already rather small version of the layout of the bathroom.
- If you are still a fan of standards, you can tile the walls with ceramic tiles. Do not use bright colors - this will create the impression of a heap in the room. The best option would be to lay tiles in two colors: from the bottom to the middle of the wall - a dark color, then edging with a frieze, and then laying in a light color.
- It is not necessary to mount a suspended, rack or any other ceiling on a frame. This design will take up some of the space.
If the bathroom is separate, then you can resort to the option of a complete redevelopment of the bathroom. The main task in this case will be to increase the space by connecting two rooms. However, this option is costly and time consuming. It will be necessary to dismantle the partition wall, and, most likely, change the water supply and other communications.

Therefore, the best method to visually enlarge the room will be the correct color scheme for finishing, as well as the rational placement of plumbing fixtures in the layout of a small bathroom.
