Roller shutters for apartment windows are used much less often than for a private house, but they are quite a popular product. It is not necessary to install the structure from the outside: it is possible to mount it from the inside. This approach solves several problems at once and does not spoil the appearance of the facade.
Features of internal shutters
The main difference between such structures and outdoor models is that they are installed on free zones in the interior space of the room. These may not necessarily be windows: roller shutters can be mounted in niches, doorways, and pantries can be separated with their help.

Depending on the place of installation, the purpose of the structures is also chosen. For example, for windows, not only decorative, protecting exclusively from the sun, but also durable protective mechanisms are applicable. For doorways, decorative structures can be used, the lamellas of which are made of wood or plastic. Their main task is to delimit space, protect the pantry or built-in closet from dust.
Internal roller shutters are structurally no different from external ones and can carry the same functions. The advantage of such systems is their invisibility, space saving, inability to dismantle them from the street side.

By installing roller shutters, you can make your apartment more comfortable, since from the street, for example, in the evening, no one will be able to look into your windows, it is safer, since an intruder cannot get through a window or door. The interior space can be properly organized using this design. You can protect yourself from the bright sun, make the room warmer in winter, if it is noisy outside, shutters will help reduce the discomfort from this.
What elements does the structure contain?
Any roller shutters have a simple design. It includes the following elements:
- Protective box: the slats are in it when you open the shutter. The box is needed for the physical protection of the canvas from weather conditions, dust, ridges, creating a decorative appearance of the structure.
- Lamels are what the movable canvas consists of. A lamella is a thin plastic, steel or aluminum plate; a canvas is assembled from several such elements. If roller shutters are designed to protect against vandals, steel slats are used. For other purposes, a less durable and lighter material can be used.
- The guides are attached to the walls. Due to this element, the movement of the web is ensured.
- The canvas is the main part of the structure that covers a window, door or other opening.
- Drive: with the help of it, the blade is set in motion. It can be manual or mechanical, depending on the complexity and cost of the structure.
Indoor roller shutters are not always equipped with a mechanical drive, however, some models can be operated from the control panel and opened remotely.

The difference between indoor and outdoor designs
Which side to mount the structure depends solely on the wishes of the customer, since there is no technical difference between these two types of shutters. In any case, indoor or outdoor roller shutters will effectively protect your home from uninvited guests, hooligans, wind, rain, sun and dust. If you place them indoors, there are several important advantages, for example, the structure cannot be dismantled without entering the building. The external appearance of the facade will not be disturbed, which is an advantage if the shutters do not match the style of the building.
Such shutters have only one drawback: the window remains outside, and vandals can break it. For this reason, if your apartment is on the first or second floor, it is advisable to use a structure mounted on the street side.

Internal roller shutters on plastic windows can be invisible inside the room: the box can be positioned in such a way that it will not be conspicuous, ordinary curtains can be hung in front of the window. If the house is just being built, you can use the built-in technique. In this case, the lamellas rise, folding not into the box located above the window, but go into the wall. But this method of installation is impossible if the building is already ready.

Convenient and versatile is the overhead method. The box is screwed over the opening that you want to protect. This can be done from the inside or outside of the building. Structurally, the shutters are no different. Most often, the box is mounted directly on the wall above the opening. This allows you to simplify the process as much as possible and save space.
The use of roller shutters is an effective way to protect premises from criminals and unwanted weather conditions. The design will help create a pleasant indoor climate and fit well into the interior.
