Situations when you need to clean the walls of paint are common. And if the process of applying dyes is not difficult, then the process of removing them is much more difficult. You can remove old paint in different ways: using a chemical, a mechanical tool, a hair dryer, a punch. Each specific case requires its own solution. And the first step is to determine what type of paint will have to be removed.
Types of paints
The division of paints into types occurs according to the principle of their purpose. There are for external surfaces, there are for internal, there are universal ones. They all have different properties, have different characteristics, respectively, require a different approach when working.
Modern painting paints are divided into:
- dry construction;
- oil;
- enamel;
- water-dispersive;
- water emulsion.
It is impossible to choose a method by which it will be possible to remove a layer of old paint easily and simply without determining its type. This is the main issue that should be considered before starting work.
Methods for Removing Old Dyes
Once you've identified the type, you can start choosing how to remove it from the surface. As a rule, experts identify 4 ways that will help get rid of the old coating layer:
- chemical;
- thermal;
- manual (mechanical);
- electromechanical.
The chemical method involves the use of a special washing mixture, which contains corrosive chemicals. They spread an unpleasant odor and it is impossible to work with them without a gas mask. The wash mixture can only be used for powder paints. The mixture is evenly distributed over the surface, left for a while and removed along with the paint with an ordinary spatula.
The thermal method is based on heating processes. For this purpose, use a simple blowtorch or construction hot air gun. The surface is heated and the warm paint is scraped off by hand. But the method is very dangerous, and not in all cases effective. For example, it will be easy to remove a heated layer from a tree, but it is much more difficult to heat and remove paint from concrete.
The mechanical or manual method is the easiest. It can be done with an ax, scraper and spatula. With a sharpened ax, small incisions are made at a short distance from each other. Using a scraper or spatula, pry off the layer and remove it like scales from a fish.
The electromechanical method strongly resembles the manual one. Only an electric drill or a grinder is also used in this case. A metal stiff brush is attached to the tool and surface cleaning begins. This method will help clean up any kind of staining, so you don't have to think about it and just use power tools before removing paint from a wall.
What to do if the surface is painted with oil paint

The thermal method is generally particularly effective in removing oil paint. In this case, it will be better to remove the paint with a hair dryer, which is used during construction. Two people work: one heats the surface, directing a hot stream of air to the right place, the other quickly removes the softened composition with a spatula. The key to this process is not to overheat the layer, which will lead to carbonization of the substance and it will be much more difficult to remove it, but this is not the only way to remove oil paint. You can also do this with a regular iron and foil. A large sheet of foil is attached to the surface and ironed with an iron. Immediately after this, the paint is cleaned off with a scraper or spatula. You can use liquid glass to cover the surface with it. Drying, it is deformed and the process of peeling off the film along with the paint occurs. A solution of potassium carbonate is also used: 0.5 kg is diluted with 1.2 kg of quicklime, brought to a slightly thick consistency and applied to a painted wall or other surface. After 12 hours the paint can be removed freely.
What to do if the surface is painted with water-based paint

This type of paint is the most unstable in relation to moisture. It is based on polyvinyl acetate, which can be easily washed off with water. That is, before removing water-based paint from any surface, you only need to purchase soap and a sponge. The surface is moistened with water, the sponge is lathered and the paint can be wiped off.
What to do if the surface is painted with acrylic paint

Acrylic paint is much more stable and cannot be washed off with a simple soap solution. Much better to resort to mechanical means to remove - disc angle grinder or shpatelyu. Esche order, how to remove acrylic paint, you can use old newspapers. They paste over the area to be cleaned and wait for complete drying, after which the paint is easily removed along with newspapers.
You can qualitatively remove the paint layer using a regular chisel. Of course, this is tedious and tedious, but effective. It is a good idea to get rid of old paint with washing mixtures and a building hair dryer. Of the above, how to remove old paint, you must choose based on the situation. Only the right approach will help solve the problem quickly and efficiently.
