Today on the building materials market you can see a lot of different types of adhesive mixtures. They all differ in their properties, scope, cost and quality. And every person who has not previously encountered finishing work has a question about which adhesive for tiles to choose.
According to their structure, adhesive mixtures have four general types, not counting the fact that they differ in the proportions of one or another component. Therefore, it is important to know what kind of tile adhesive is needed in a particular case. Here, everything will depend on the type of tile, the surface on which it will be laid, the microclimate of the room and a number of other factors.
Types of adhesive mixtures
To begin with, you should decide on what kind of adhesive mixtures are. In general, they are usually divided as follows:
- Cement mixtures.
- Epoxy adhesive.
- Dispersion based adhesive mixtures.
- As well as polyurethane compounds.

In order to figure out which glue for tiles is best suited, let's take a closer look at each of the types. To begin with, let's figure out how to choose the right adhesive for tiles:

Video:
Cement composition
This mixture is most popular in use due to its unique properties and versatility. This allows you to perform almost any tile laying work using such a composition. In particular, interior decoration works.

Among the advantages are:
- Relatively low cost.
- The speed of preparation and application of the solution.
- Ease of use.
- Due to the cost, it can significantly reduce the total cost of repair work.
- Higher reliability of fastening, in contrast to pasty types of glue.
- High mechanical properties.
- A wide range of choices.
- When adding special modifying components, it is possible to clad the facade of the building using such an adhesive.
Speaking about the manufacture, it can be noted that such an adhesive for laying tiles is made on the basis of Portland cement, in combination with sand and additional modifying components that are used depending on the required properties of the mixture.

Such a composition is used exclusively for interior decoration, both in dry and in rooms with high humidity. In addition, it can be used on any surface, from plastered and bare concrete, to a screed or wooden base.
In some cases, it is allowed to use it from the outside of the building, but only with low rainfall in the region, since the solution can be washed out over time.
Epoxy adhesive
Another type is the composition that does not contain solvents; among the features, a pasty consistency can be distinguished. This option is best suited if there is an acute question of which tile adhesive is better when laying on the ceiling.

Among the features of the application, it is possible to note the possibility of using both adhesive and fixing or leveling material. You can use it when working with any surfaces, in particular:
- For joining ceramics, concrete, wood, aluminum, steel.
- When repairing concrete structures. For example, when repairing cracks in a concrete screed.
- For fastening bearing elements during repairs (columns, curbs).
- Also for finishing corners and repairing cracks.
Dispersion adhesive
This species, just like the past, has a pasty consistency, in addition, it does not contain

solvents in its composition. It is mainly used for laying large tiles in size and weight.
It is also quite often used when gluing plasterboard or chipboard surfaces with tiles. In some cases, you can see its use not only for laying tiles, but also for arranging thermal insulation materials on the surface.
Polyurethane adhesive
This is the last type of glue. This material contains one component, as the name implies - polyurethane. It has a high level of elasticity, therefore it is used both for tiles and for insulation.

Most of them are used in gluing ceramic and metlakh tiles. Also often used as an adhesive for floor tiles, old substrates and wood flooring.

It should be noted that the main type that is most often used is cement, since in most of its properties it is quite enough for work.
Required properties and consumption of glue
When it comes to what kind of glue to glue the tiles, it is necessary to take into account several main characteristics that it must have, among them the following:
First of all, this is the slip resistance of the glue. Since each of the compositions has its own level of thixort qualities, its stability will be different.
But in any case, an adhesive suitable for use in certain conditions must have good adhesion and plastic structure. Thus, when choosing glue, it is necessary to consider the level of its sliding, it should not exceed half a millimeter. Note that there are also improved mixtures in which this level is not more than 0.1 millimeter.
Open hours. This factor indicates how long the glue mixture can retain its properties without drying out, without getting aired. Due to this, tiles can be laid on it without hindrance. The standard time is 15-20 minutes, for quick-drying adhesive mixtures 5-10 minutes.

Tile adjustment time. Speaking about what kind of glue is needed for a tile, we need to consider how long we can adjust its position. A good mixture should fully ensure the free movement of the tiles for the final leveling, and, moreover, exclude its sliding. Thus, the solution should provide maximum adhesion, but at the same time, under mechanical stress, give in to the position correction for some time.
Also, in the question of which glue is better to glue the tiles, an important factor is the period of use of the solution. This is the time during which the solution can be operated from the moment it is mixed. Considering standard, though high-quality solutions, this time ranges from 1 to 3 hours.
And the last question is which glue for laying tiles to choose depending on its consumption. In particular, most brands from different manufacturers have almost the same consumption. It depends directly on the size of the tile. When laying standard tile material measuring 20 * 20 centimeters, the average consumption is 3-4 kilograms.
Application features
Asking the question of which tile adhesive to use should be taken into account and the peculiarities of its application. In some cases, it becomes necessary to use a non-standard type of adhesive mixture.
For example, when it comes to laying large tiles, it is necessary to use glue with an increased level of fixation. Typhoon Master No. 11 or Ceresit CM12 will do.

Another feature is the laying of the mosaic; it will also require a separate type of adhesive mixture. This will also include the laying of marble, crystal stones, and transparent materials.
When laying tiles on a surface that can deform, use adhesive mixtures with an increased level of elasticity.
Depending on the heating arrangement, it may be necessary to use a heat-resistant adhesive.

And the last factor that needs to be considered in order to determine what kind of glue to glue ceramic tiles is a mixture of different manufacturers, their compliance with basic quality requirements, and most importantly - cost.

Thus, having fully considered all the characteristics of the given types of glue, you can decide for yourself which glue for tiles on the floor is better. According to their characteristics, the given types of glue do not differ much, with the exception of a few of them, which are heat-resistant (Parade K-77). In general, despite the wide variety, it is best to entrust the repair and selection of materials to specialists.
And finally, we suggest you watch a video about the difference between tile adhesive.
