Heating is one of the most important factors in creating comfort. And its correct arrangement becomes important. Therefore, you need to know how to equip the heating system in the house, while avoiding mistakes and achieving uniform heating of the heating batteries

Heating system selection

First, select the heating system that you intend to use in your home.

The most common in homes is a water heating system, which we will consider. Draw up a project in which provide a heating boiler, radiators, communications, temperature control devices and control of the entire system. Calculate the required system power based on the area and volume of the home.

Also, make a list of required materials, equipment and tools. Purchase everything according to the list. Some instruments may not be purchased, but may be rented.

You should also consider the features of choosing a heating system before proceeding with installation.

Features of water heating

Today, two large groups of water heating can be distinguished, these are two-pipe and one-pipe designs. In the case of the second option, it should be noted that it is cheaper and simpler. A fairly good solution would be to install this in a one-story house, but in the case of fairly large areas, in particular several floors, a two-pipe heating system would be the most suitable option.

Advantages and disadvantages

First of all, it is necessary to consider all the positive and negative features of such a battery heating system.

Even despite their higher cost, such systems can be found much more often than single-pipe systems, since they are most suitable for installation in buildings with several floors, as well as buildings with complex configurations.

It should be noted that all the necessary decisions regarding the arrangement of heating must be made even at the construction phase of the building. But at the same time, installation in already erected buildings is also allowed, although it is somewhat more complicated.

The two-pipe heating system got its characteristic name due to one feature. In particular, it is a way of moving the coolant. More precisely, after heating, the coolant moves along one pipe to the radiator, and leaves it and returns to the heating device in a completely different way. It should also be noted that all heating devices are connected in parallel, which accordingly makes it possible to independently regulate the temperature.

Speaking about the advantages of this design, the following should be noted:

  • First of all, each of the radiators has the same temperature.
  • In addition, it is possible to install a thermostat, which will allow you to fully control the temperature in the premises.
  • In the event of a breakdown of one of their devices, the rest continue to work further without interruption.
  • Also, the fundamental factor in popularity was the ability to use this type of system in any buildings.

Considering the shortcomings directly, one cannot overlook:

  • Quite a large number of pipes and connecting components, which significantly increases the cost of the system.
  • The installation process of the system is rather complicated.
  • In addition, the system itself has a fairly high cost, compared with a single-pipe, its price will be several times higher.

Varieties of a two-pipe heating system

Speaking about the varieties of such a heating system, it should be noted that its classification is carried out in the same way as a one-pipe one, more specifically, such heating can be equipped with forced air circulation or natural, in addition, it can have horizontal and vertical wiring.

Speaking about a system with natural circulation, it should be noted that its functioning is due to heating, and as a result of changes in the density of water.

When using this system, you can additionally observe a number of disadvantages, among them:

  • Considering the temperature in the boiler and radiators, it should be noted that it changes quite often, and abruptly.
  • The length of the pipeline arrangement should not exceed generally accepted standards, i.e. 30 meters.
  • In addition, there is a fairly high risk of frost in the bank and radiator.
  • And the last is the need for large-sized pipes, which significantly increases the cost of the structure.

Among the features of this option for arranging heating, it should be noted the possibility of installing large-diameter pipes, as well as a rather high pressure, due to the difference in the supply of the coolant and the return level. During installation, you will need to observe the slope. At the same time, there is a small drawback; in this situation, additional installation of an expansion tank, which is installed in the attic, may be required.

Speaking of the merits, of course, this is the absence of electricity costs (a pump that constantly consumes 100 watts per hour), which saves a decent budget in a month. And especially such a system will be relevant in areas with power outages.

For those whose choice was a two-pipe heating system with top wiring, it is rather of little interest that all pipes will be located under the ceiling. In this case, the arrangement of the elements in this case involves the installation of the supply pipe above the windows, while the tank is installed directly under the ceiling. When implementing such a solution, it should be borne in mind that the circulation of the coolant in this case can be somewhat reduced due to the reduced length of the riser. And in addition, pipes will be installed in each of the premises.

It should also be noted that with a small distance from the window to the ceiling, you will have to make a cutout in the ceiling, while insulating the upper part of the tank, so that it still remains in the heated space. But a solution is possible using an expansion tank.

In this case, the dimensions of the tank will be slightly larger, due to which the riser is slightly longer. But it is also necessary to take into account the fact that it will not be possible to take technical water from the system, due to the lack of the possibility of combining the tanks.

In addition, the installation of the return line should also be noted, which is also carried out under the ceiling, or near the floor, which is more productive. But it must be borne in mind that the two-pipe heating system of a private house, the diagram of which is given below, will not allow the use of connecting elements, since in this case it is almost impossible to avoid this drawback.

System appearance

Thus, pipes that are installed above windows and under the ceiling have a detrimental effect on the appearance of the room. And besides, due to the ceiling, a certain part of the heat is lost, which should have almost improved the temperature regime. That is why a two-pipe heating system is sometimes used, the diagram of which represents the pipe connections under the radiators, but at the same time it eliminates all the disadvantages.

It should also be noted that when the coolant is supplied, it is quite rare, or rather practically, air locks never occur, since there is quite a lot of pressure in the riser. It should be noted that when the pump is included in the circuit, it is allowed to use pipes of minimum dimensions.

Arrangement of vertical two-pipe wiring in a two-story house

In the case when a two-pipe heating system of a two-story house is equipped, it is the vertical wiring that becomes more effective. This is due to the fact that air circulation is significantly increased due to the height of the radiators. This factor determines the flow of water into the distribution tank located in the attic, after which the coolant is rapidly directed to the radiators along the inclined pipeline.

In this variation, unlike the previous one, it is allowed to connect the distribution tank to the expansion tank. In addition, when using a coal or wood boiler, complete autonomy and independence from electricity is achieved.

A more successful variation is a combination of several systems, we are talking about when a one-pipe and two-pipe heating system is used together. In such a situation, the main advantage of the system also remains - the regulation of the temperature regime of individual rooms.

You can also consider another option, in particular, it is laying pipes in the form of a "warm floor" system. Thus, they will not only transfer heat to the heating devices, but also additionally heat the floors.

This system also has disadvantages that must be indicated:

  • They require a fairly large flow of pipes.
  • In some cases, problems arise when choosing a place to install the expansion tank.
  • Due to its bulkiness, the system spoils the aesthetics of the room.
  • If you still want to disguise the pipes, then quite a lot of finance will go to additional decorative trim.
  • In this case, the second floor will warm up somewhat better than the first.
  • The combination of expansion and distribution tank is not always possible.
  • And the last drawback is the lack of the possibility of installation in other rooms.

Basically, a two-pipe heating system with top wiring is used due to its main advantage - a high circulation rate, while there are no air locks in them at all.

Two-pipe heating system with bottom piping

Also, a two-pipe heating system with a lower wiring is also quite common. This design has several characteristic features, including:

  • First of all, the significantly larger diameter of the pipeline.
  • In addition, the pipeline is mounted at an angle.

Considering this system, it should be noted that its installation is carried out both in variation with natural circulation and with forced circulation. Typically, the system is installed in houses with a poor basement, as well as a sloping roof.

Note that when using the lower wiring, the pipeline is mounted under the radiators, or at the same level with them. The main negative factor is the rather frequent appearance of air cushions, which necessitates the installation of Mayevsky taps on each of the radiators.

Among the advantages of this kind of system are:

  • Quite high efficiency.
  • Available for installation in an unfinished building.
  • It is possible to disconnect individual rooms or even an entire floor from heating.
  • The whole system is quite easy to adjust, in addition, it is possible to overlap certain radiators.
  • Locking elements of the structure are mounted in one room.

Among the varieties of such a system, one can note schemes with parallel or collector placement of radiators. In the case of a collector arrangement, two pipelines are supplied to the radiator, in particular, the outlet and the supply. In this case, all rooms warm up a little better, but note that the system is quite expensive, since it requires additional pipe materials and connecting structures.

Installation of a two-pipe heating system

Begin installing the system following the instructions for the selected system. In our case, this is water heating.

Install the radiators using a rotary hammer and the necessary fittings (fasteners). Usually, the fasteners come complete with heating devices. Equip the room with warm floors, if provided for by the project.

Calculate separately the number of pipes, adapters, tees, etc. for the device of the heating system. Draw up a detailed diagram of the location of all elements of the system, indicating the scale. Draw on the diagram where the communications will take place. When doing this, take into account the location of the electrical cables so as not to accidentally damage them.

Before putting the heating system into operation, bleed the air in the system by unscrewing the tap until water appears (in this case, air "plugs" will come out of the system). Leave the heating system startup to a specialist, otherwise the boiler will be removed from the warranty service.

After connecting the heating, check all the joints of the pipes and their joints with the heating devices to make sure that the connections are secure and tight. If necessary, turn off the system and correct installation faults.

When installing a two-pipe heating system, a number of rules should be taken into account:

  • It is imperative that the supply pipe is located above the outlet.
  • In addition, the location of both pipes must be parallel.
  • The expansion vessel must be installed higher than the boiler.
  • When arranging a system with natural circulation, the pipeline must be installed with a slope towards the last radiator.
  • All components must be equipped with valves.
  • There should be no right angles in the pipeline, as they cause air pockets.
  • When arranging a system with vertical wiring, additional insulation is required to install the tank.
  • All dimensions of the connecting components must fully correspond to the dimensions of the pipe.
  • And of course, all fasteners must be manufactured and meet all the requirements of state standards.

In addition, when installing the collector in a two-pipe heating system, its installation must be carried out so that the distance to any of the radiators is identical. Speaking about the material of the pipeline, we note that it is selected depending on the results of hydraulic calculations, as well as the wishes of the owner himself. At the end of the prepositions, he will get acquainted with the material on how to choose the right heating battery, depending on the selected system.
