When choosing wallpaper for finishing the ceiling, you need to know what kind of wallpaper there are, what quality it is desirable to select and many other nuances. There are so-called specially ceiling wallpapers. Their color is white, and they do not necessarily need a smooth surface on the ceiling. Such wallpapers are made only in Russia.
It should be borne in mind that in Europe there is no ceiling wallpaper, instead of such wallpaper, paintable wallpaper is used. There are also not only paper types of ceiling wallpaper, but also non-woven wallpaper.
What are the differences between our wallpapers and imported ones. Imported wallpaper is dense, porous and has two layers, and can be painted with water dispersion paint, more than ten times. You also need to keep in mind that domestic wallpapers will last about five years, and imported ones two, or even three times longer, they can be washed, painted, and of course their price is significantly different.
How to properly glue wallpaper on the ceiling
First you need to prepare the ceiling surface, that is, it must be dry, clean and even. If it still had old wallpaper, then it is better to use a solvent that removes the old wallpaper. The ceiling is painted with paint, then you need to check how strong this paint is, that is, glue a special piece of adhesive tape and tear it off sharply. If there are paint residues on the tape, then this paint will need to be cleaned. Ceiling putty is used only when there are large defects. Lime is washed off quite easily, you need to brush over the surface with a brush with hot water, wait about half an hour and rinse with a damp cloth. And the most important thing is to check all the electricity, turn it off completely and only then start working!
Layout and preparation
Next, we make markings on the ceiling surface. Wallpaper should be glued in the opposite direction from the window. This is done so that the joints are invisible. It is also necessary to mark the roll width with a pencil and subtract two or three centimeters. Do the same on the opposite side. These marks are connected from one side to the other with a cord.
The next stage is the preparation of the glue, it must be prepared half an hour before the wallpaper starts. Follow all required adhesive instructions. For different types of wallpaper, different glue is also used. To properly dissolve the glue, be sure to first create a funnel in water and gradually pour in the glue, also stirring. Then leave for half an hour.

Next, you need to correctly cut the length of the wallpaper, be sure to plus one or two centimeters. It should be borne in mind that the panels, after being coated with glue, may decrease in length, quite a bit, but you need to know this.
Now we carefully apply the glue and start gluing to the walls, one at the top evens out all the moments, and the other at the bottom docks correctly, the excess wallpaper is then cut off with a special sharp knife. The rest of the panels are glued in the same way, only they are already joined and equated with the first panel.
The order of the work
The frequency of wallpapering on the ceiling is as follows:
- It is very important to apply the first strip of wallpaper correctly. To do this, draw a straight line 50 cm from the wall.
- We mark 2 points, then apply the marking cord and beat off the line.
- The glue for pasting the ceiling should be thicker than for pasting the walls. The heavier the wallpaper, the thicker the glue.
- We cut the canvases 8 cm longer than the width of the room, we need the ends to slightly overlap the walls.
- We carefully coat the finished wallpaper strips with glue using a roller or a wide brush and fold them like an accordion.
- Bend 1/3 of the folded "accordion" strip of wallpaper to the middle.
- Glue the first strip of wallpaper along the marked line and press it to the ceiling.
- First, press the wallpaper with your hands, then smooth it with a brush.
- After the next strip has been glued, we pass with a grooved suture roller along the seam so that the joint is invisible.
- We blot the glue that has emerged from under the wallpaper with a cotton cloth.
- As soon as the wallpaper is dry, cut off the protruding ends with a knife.
When wallpapering the ceiling is carried out, it is necessary to close all windows and doors, there should not be any drafts, and after finishing it is necessary to let the room remain closed for a day. It is not difficult to properly glue the wallpaper on the ceiling, now you are convinced of this, but you have to work a little. Good luck!
