Like any classics, good work of a plasterer is based on "three whales" - a high-quality surface, the composition of the plaster and the presence of precise beacons. First evaluate the surface to be plastered. It must have sufficient strength to hold the applied plaster. The surface should not flake off and crumble. It is not recommended to re-plaster on old plaster, because old plaster can hide defects that will only appear after the new plaster has dried. As a result, you have to remove everything and start over. The do-it-yourself apartment renovation website will reveal the secrets of wall plastering, after which you can do it yourself.
Do-it-yourself internal gypsum plaster of walls
If the base surface is ordinary brickwork, it is permissible to use a plaster mixture on cement. This is the best option. It turns out cheaply and thicker layers are allowed (for brick walls this is often necessary). But, if a layer of more than 20 mm is applied, the plaster must be reinforced with a plaster mesh. When making internal gypsum plaster of walls, a brick wall does not need a primer if there are no oil stains and dust on the wall. This is how ordinary building bricks are plastered.
If facing brick is to be plastered, then the situation is more complicated. Here you will have to use special primers and fittings. The technology is rather complicated and it would be better to invite trusted specialists to this work. Due to the smoothness of the surface of facing bricks and their

small porosity, the plaster does not adhere well to the surface. As a result, the plaster composition exfoliates in pieces (sometimes together with the mesh), which fall out. Even if the reinforcement is made with high quality and the pieces of plaster do not fall out, cracks will appear on the surface of the plaster soon.
Plastering a smooth concrete wall requires a gypsum-based plastering compound. In this case, priming the base surface is required. The best plaster compounds on gypsum are those that contain particles of quartz (sand), which give the smooth surface a slight roughness, which will ensure sufficient adhesion of the plaster to the surface. Gypsum plaster is reinforced with a polymer mesh with 5 × 5 mm cells.
When plastering rough concrete, both cement and gypsum compositions are used. Rough concrete must also be primed, but a quartz-free primer can be used. Suitable primers are offered by Prospectors and Glimsa.
For plastering foam concrete surfaces, it is better to use gypsum compositions, but cement ones are also allowed. But a primer is necessary, and not simple, but the so-called "deep penetration".
Tongue gypsum blocks, from which partitions are made, are best plastered with gypsum compositions with a preliminary treatment with a conventional primer.
After evaluating and preparing the base surface and choosing the plastering composition, it is necessary to set up beacons.
Installation of beacons on the wall for plaster

Lighthouses in construction are guides that help level the surface with the help of liquid compounds. For plaster beacons, perforated profiles in the form of T-bars are used. The profile width depends on the thickness of the applied plaster. Special beacons are good because they do not need to be removed at the end of the plastering work - they remain in the thickness of the plaster. This means that then it is not necessary to close up the grooves after the removal of the lighthouses.
Exposing and installing beacons on the wall for plastering requires special care. First, the entire room is checked to find out the deviation of its geometry from the correct shape. This is done using a square, a plumb line, a slatted level, a long rule (at least two meters) and a tape measure.
Use a square to check the correct angles between the walls. The verticality of the walls is checked with a plumb line. The flatness of the surface is checked by the rule. Rack level checks the slopes of horizontal surfaces and is used as an auxiliary tool for checking the slopes of the walls. A tape measure is needed to accurately measure the amount of deviations determined by other instruments. You can also measure the diagonals of the room with a tape measure - if the diagonals are not equal to each other, then the room is not rectangular, and the corners in it are not straight. Upon completion of all measurements, a decision is made to place beacons. This can be a change in the shape of the room to give the correct geometric or simple alignment of the unevenness of the walls - it all depends on the tasks pursued by plastering.
Before installing the beacons, the walls are completely grounded. Beacons are exposed on a quick-setting solution or on the one that will be used for plastering. Vertical strips of mortar are applied to the wall, into which beacons are inserted. Before the solution hardens, the beacons must have time to align in levels and heights. The distance between the beacons is set such that the rule used rests on two adjacent beacons with its ends and has the ability to move slightly along them without sliding off them. How to properly apply plaster on walls, application technology

Plastering technology is quite simple. Between neighboring beacons, an excess amount of mortar is poured onto the wall with a trowel (this is called "basting"). After basting, with a rule based on neighboring beacons, the solution is leveled from bottom to top.
Professional plasterers use the "falcon" for sketching. It is a flat area with a handle at the bottom. A plaster solution is applied to the site in a volume much larger than when using a trowel. Holding the falcon in one hand, the plasterer with a trowel in the other hand throws mortar from the falcon onto the wall. This technique provides higher labor productivity. The technology for applying plaster to the wall is not cardinal, you can throw in the solution as it suits you. Here are ways to quickly plaster walls with a hopper bucket.
To make a thick layer of plaster, first make a rough outline without aligning with the beacons. As soon as this layer dries up and loses its mobility, you can make a finishing line and level it according to the described method.
The solution applied and stretched over the lighthouses is dried and grout done, that is, the plastered surface is sanded to remove minor defects. This completes the process of plastering the walls with gypsum mixtures. Now we suggest watching the video tutorials that we have selected on this issue.
