Elimination of irregularities

• Potholes. They begin to appear over time. Defects are influenced by external mechanical loads.

  

  If they are not eliminated in time, then even the destruction of the coating is possible. The pothole should be cut around the perimeter to a depth of about 20 mm. The old coating is removed, and debris should also be disposed of. An industrial vacuum cleaner will get rid of dust. A very important stage is the priming of the surface where epoxy-based materials are used. This will noticeably increase the adhesion level of the substrate and subsequent casting. For filling, a repair compound prepared from a construction mixture is used. It remains only to level everything on the surface with the rule. Finishing work is sanding the dried mortar to match the floor level.

• Cracks. They should also be dealt with as soon as they are found on the surface.

  

  Otherwise, it will begin to increase in size and lead to damage to the entire area. Therefore, the leveling of uneven floors in the initial stages is essential. Everything will depend on the depth and volume of the gap. With its thickness up to 20 mm, the depression is usually made by 10 mm, but if this layer is larger, at least 50 mm. If the crack is very significant, then additional depressions are made along the edges. All that remains is to remove all the debris and fill the space with a primer. The repair mortar used must have an epoxy or polyurethane base which is mixed with quartz sand (filler).

• Seams. Expansion joints lose their properties and quality over time. They can crumble, crumble. A diamond disc is used to join the seam. The edges should be arranged strictly perpendicular to the base. Steel rods are placed along the specified crack. After filling the joint with the repair compound and its complete solidification, the surface is sanded, the markers are removed. New expansion joints are made according to the left markings. The cord "Vilotherm" is laid in the resulting seam, performing two important functions at once - vibration and waterproofing of the floor.

The best and the best option is the implementation of pouring a concrete screed. With its help, the base is leveled and a strong and reliable surface is created.

Height difference between rooms

It often happens that repairs are done in one particular room. It all starts with the subfloor and ends with the distribution of furniture. But few people think that in the future the same repair will be required in other areas of the apartment. The question immediately arises of how to level the floor difference between rooms. Some leave it as it is and just expose the nut. But the best option is to completely level the surfaces to the same level.

In the first case, there is simply a fear of a significant reduction in the distance between the ceiling and the floor. This is true for rooms with low ceilings. In addition, there is no desire to spend money on the purchase of mixtures for pouring a new screed and spending their own time on work.

But it will be much more pleasant and aesthetically beautiful if the transition from one room to another is a single whole. In this case, there are no obstacles. In this case, there are two main options for how to level the floor between rooms:

1. Creation of a new floor screed, due to which the level in another room is raised.

   

   Moreover, on the building materials market, you can find a wide range of products for obtaining a thin screed. Particular attention should be paid to manufacturers such as "Master", "Prospectors" or "Bergauf". In addition to the screed itself, you can install logs of a certain height, and then put sheet material on them and finish the flooring. Here, an additional layer of sound insulation will appear, which is laid between the located lags.
2. Use of appropriate material and coating. If the flooring of a covering, for example a tile, is made without a screed, then it must be thick enough to bring the level of the difference to one position. In addition, the layer of glue under the tile is taken larger than in the standard version.

Even if, in this case, a slight difference in height between the rooms of a few millimeters appears, then a multi-level sill, fitted to the interior of both rooms in the apartment, will help to hide them. In general, everything will depend on imagination and financial situation.

Leveling under a warm floor

An even floor surface is also necessary when a floor heating system is installed. The screed is poured under the heating devices. At the same time, the heat remains inside the room and is not wasted anywhere.

Heating costs are significantly reduced. But it is important to know how to level the floor under the warm floor.

If we are talking about a water-heated floor, then not only the system pipeline is protected, but also allows the heat to be evenly distributed over the entire surface. A heat and sound insulation layer is created.

Several screed options can be applied under warm floors to level the base:

• Dry screed. Currently, there is a huge range of mixtures on the building materials market that can be used to level the base of the floor before installing a warm floor. The same applies to backfills. The procedure for installation is as follows: initially, the waterproofing material is laid, which can be an ordinary polyethylene film, after which the dry mixture (expanded clay or other) is backfilled and the sheet material is laid - GKL.

  

  The whole process is very convenient, it requires a lot of physical effort, you do not need to wait until it dries completely, as in a concrete screed. The process of making a warm floor will be reduced in terms of time.
• Sand-cement (concrete). But how to level the unevenness of the floor, what materials are the best to carry out? In addition to the proportions of sand and cement, which are provided for by the technology of pouring the screed, PVA glue is also added as a plasticizer. If a water floor heating pipeline is placed in such a solution, then it will also be protected from mechanical damage.

When a screed for a warm floor is chosen to level the floor, then certain requirements should be adhered to, without which a perfectly flat surface with all the strength characteristics will not work. All work begins from the walls located on the opposite side of the front door to the room. A quick drying process will be achieved if small holes are made in the filling within 4-5 cm. In addition, better adhesion to the old surface will occur. The concrete screed should be 30 to 50 mm thick.

Align in parts

Surface imperfections may appear before the floor is laid and part of the floor will have to be leveled.

But in such a situation, there is a high probability of subsequent damage to the material on the floor, as well as a decrease in the strength of the screed in the areas being repaired.

In such a situation, it is important to choose the composition for the work so that there is a sufficient level of adhesion. In small recesses, it is better not to use sand concrete even of the M300 brand, it will not hold in the strobe, after a short time it will begin to fly off. For installation and removal of floor irregularities, not only tile glue is actively used, but also special mixtures "pouring". But even before that, the entire surface is cleaned of debris and a layer of primer is applied.

Damaged areas can occur at the junction of two floor slabs. At the same time, the floor remains level, the screed is filled with high quality. To install laminate flooring, leveling should be done to the general level using self-leveling compounds.

After repairs, insignificant heights of up to 5 mm can be found. It is better not to start laying such material as laminate until we get rid of them. Some people try to use a sander, but this does not bring a bright result. The best option is a grinder with a diamond cup. In this case, the revolutions must be independently regulated. True, it is best to entrust the work to a specialist. A height difference of no more than 2 mm is allowed for every 2 meters of the area in the room, so that it is possible to lay laminate or similar material on the surface.

Alignment errors

When creating a flat floor surface for finishing, very serious violations can occur, with which it will be problematic to get a positive result.

1. Mix selection. Very often those products are purchased that do not correspond to the work performed. That is, few people pay attention to the instructions from the manufacturer and the purpose.

   

   They all interact with the topcoat in different ways.
2. If the surface is not primed, the screed peels off and cracks appear. It will no longer be possible to hide all this with finishing.
3. Before pouring the screed in the apartment, even if one level will be implemented in each room, it is worth thinking about what kind of flooring will be used. After all, it will also have different thicknesses. Otherwise, you will have to think about how to level the floor between rooms so that you end up with a flat surface.
4. The main thing is to thoroughly care for the screed during the drying process.

5. When using self-leveling mixtures, it is best not to do the work yourself, but to seek help from specialists. A single installation will lead to rapid moisture absorption.

   

   It will be problematic to fill even small areas throughout the entire area in the room at one moment.

6. Before using self-leveling mixtures, carefully prepare the base so that the quality of the screed is the best. Any grease or paint stains must be removed. This will only reduce the degree of adhesion of the finished mixture to the substrate. Therefore, there will be no talk of any quality alignment.

All these methods will make it possible to fully cope with irregularities on the old concrete screed, on the screed between transitions from one room to another, as well as get rid of possible surface defects that appear during operation.
