Not only old buildings, but also new buildings create problems for their owners. This is primarily due to uneven floor surfaces. This base cannot be used for any kind of flooring. Therefore, you have to find a way to level the floor in the best way. An excellent material for this would be a floor leveling mixture. They have a sufficient number of advantages due to the constituent components that increase the quality of the finished solution.
Floor screed in new houses does not always have a flat surface. But it is very important for a quality flooring, as well as the appearance of any room. There is no point in doing even a decorative finish on such a surface. All defects, which are depressions and bumps, will be noticeable in the future on the finish surface.
If earlier the composition of the solution for making the screed was prepared directly on the site, now dry mixes are used to level the floor, in which it is enough to add a certain amount of water. They have all the necessary components to obtain a quality result. In addition, the proportions are fully observed in their relationship with each other.
Leveling compounds for the floor are quick-hardening compounds with plasticity and excellent fluidity. Usually they are presented in the form of dry mixes or concentrates, in which there are appropriate additives. It remains only to add the required amount of water and pour over the entire area of the room. Any unevenness of the subfloor will be hidden, the surface will be perfectly smooth.
Benefits of ready-mix
The binder and the main component of the dry mix are usually cement or gypsum. In addition, they contain aggregates - sand. Ready-made compositions, which differ, additionally contain additives, giving certain properties and characteristics to the finished solution. They are constantly being improved, thanks to which the field of application is expanding every day. You can level not only a concrete base, but also a wooden one, arrange floors in rooms, outdoors, on a terrace and at industrial facilities.
You can pick up dry mixes for leveling the floor, which will not require finishing as a result. That is, you get a topcoat. But in most cases they are used as a base layer, a kind of interlayer. This is not due to particular attractiveness, absorption of moisture and fats.
Several attention should be paid to the pluses that the self-leveling floor mixture has:
- The strength of the result obtained.
- Long service life.
Good adhesion to the next coat.
- The strength of the solution is obtained even with a minimum layer, which allows not to influence the height of the room.
- Instant time of solution hardening.
- No sagging after solidification.
- There is no need to carefully monitor the “ripening” process, spray and increase the humidity level.
- Any base can be leveled due to a huge range of ready-mixes for self-leveling floors.
- Uniform distribution of the finished solution over the entire area in the room.
Factory mixes can be replaced with a cheaper option. It is enough to take a part of the cement, add three parts of sand to it, with a fraction of no more than 5 mm. Initially, these two components are mixed, and then water can be added. As a result, you can use a solution for screed and leveling the surface. At the same time, it is important to monitor the proportions of the component and choose only the best of them to obtain the desired result. But even in this case, the result will not always be pleasing. It is worth adding that the drying of the solution takes almost a month, it can crack, sag and show all its other negative qualities.
If there are no other options for the "homemade" mixture, for its better plasticity, PVA glue can be added to the composition. In this case, the solution for the screed will quickly solidify, and in the future you will have to make a lot of effort when cleaning the base.
All this suggests that it is best not to fool your head with the proportions and advice of specialists to improve the quality of the sand-cement mortar for the surface, but to buy mixtures for the final leveling of the floor.
Dry mix composition
There are two large groups of dry building mixes for self-leveling floors:
Cement based. Wider area of application due to the lack of fear of moisture.
- Gypsum-based. Due to the immediate absorption of water, such solutions are best done in dry rooms (living rooms).
The popularity of gypsum does not go anywhere because of its environmental friendliness, inclusion in the composition of natural ingredients. Gypsum mixtures for leveling the floor have an excellent level of thermal insulation, which allows them to be used for a warm floor system. They are able to absorb moisture if it is too much indoors and give it away if it is not enough. This is perfect for flooring such as parquet, laminate. They will not dry out.
When a leveling compound is used, the self-leveling floor is very thin and durable. At the same time, a certain additive can be included in its composition, adding some properties and characteristics to the finished solution. Additives will change the composition of the self-leveling floor. Cracks will almost never form on a dry substrate. The only exception is non-compliance with the technology of the self-leveling floor.
Varieties of self-leveling compounds
Dry floor leveling compounds are divided into two broad categories depending on how they are handled:
Self-leveling mixtures. They are able to self-distribute over the floor surface without unnecessary effort. After pouring, the finished solution takes a horizontal position and, as a result, provides a perfectly flat surface. A special pump is used for large areas. Due to their fast hardening, they are most often used for leveling the base and preparing flooring for flooring. But after mixing, this mixture cannot become a topcoat due to its appearance, active release of dust substances, excellent absorption of moisture and oils.
- Requiring additional leveling with a spatula. The person takes an active part in the floor screed device. They are also called "coarse" mixture. Suitable for underfloor heating and smoothing out massive irregularities in the floor surface.
The difference between the ready-made mixtures lies in the functions performed. It is customary to arrange thicker final layers with significant floor drops, potholes that are difficult to repair in other ways. At the same time, there is a finishing finish when a thin self-leveling floor is poured. In the latter case, the truth and cost will increase significantly.
Mixtures are not always suitable for subsequent finishing. This applies to their arrangement on the street, on the terrace, veranda, steps. The thickness of the base layer of the screed is at least 1 cm and reaches 8. There are already fillers that can reduce the price: ground granite, expanded clay, coarse sand. Their fluidity is reduced, due to which a perfectly flat surface is unlikely to be obtained.
With a slight difference in the height of the base of the floor, finishing compounds can be used immediately. True, in this case, one should not forget about their high cost. Their choice will depend on the humidity in the room, the degree of exposure during operation.
The repair of ceramic tiles is carried out using elastic mixtures. The cement mixture for leveling the floor is also suitable for the reconstruction of a wooden base, an asphalt surface. Self-leveling mixtures help to "pull" the level of different floors in the apartment (laminate and tiles).
When visiting a store, it is very difficult to choose the right mixture for leveling the floor. The assortment is very large and requires additional attention and study of each individual manufacturer.
The manufacturer "Teplolux" is popular. He is ready to meet all the expectations of a customer who wants to arrange a warm floor under the floor covering or a finishing layer of self-leveling floor.
To obtain a high quality flat surface, you should pay attention to the trade mark "Vetonit". In addition to underfloor heating, they can be used for screed on a wooden base, old tiles and other similar surfaces. Excellent for damp rooms, which do not affect the quality of the ready-mixed mixture. The curing process takes only a few hours.
There are times when the surface in the room is so ugly that it requires tremendous attention from the performer. In such a situation, the prospectors' self-leveling floor will come to the rescue, capable of providing a powerful and durable surface after drying.
For laying electrical wiring, cables, the choice should be stopped on the brands "Nipline" and "Startoline". They are also capable of creating a level floor throughout the indoor area.
It is difficult to decide which mixture is best for leveling the floor. Each of them has a certain set of qualities, adapted for a specific room, providing a set of positive qualities. Experts say that if a base and finishing layer of a self-leveling floor is used, then it should be made from mixtures of one of the manufacturers, which must be adhered to during installation.
A good floor leveling mixture must be selected according to the customer's requirements. The selection is carried out for a separate room and taking into account the indicators of humidity and temperature. The drying time of the finished solution can also play a decisive role. This factor is especially necessary when the repair time is tight.
Despite the self-leveling floor, the thick layer even contributes to the provision of high quality and reliability of the surface. Such floors are very easy to operate, as they do not require undue attention.
After complete drying, they have no effect on human health. This must be guarded only during the drying process, when a large amount of harmful substances are released.
The floor leveling compound is very easy to prepare. The installation of the base is carried out in the same way. It is enough to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Consultation with specialists will allow you to make the final choice in favor of a specific type of self-leveling mixture. They will know everything about it, since they have to deal with them constantly.
In no case should you pour more water into the dry floor leveling mixture to get the volume of the solution. This will immediately reduce all performance and drying properties. Exact adherence to the instructions will help you get a really high-quality result.
If there is no minimum knowledge in this direction of the construction industry, then it is better to entrust the work to professionals. Having paid for their service, you will not have to waste your own time and worry about the outcome. It will be cheaper to do just that than to spend huge efforts and resources on dismantling the self-leveling floor due to a violation of the device technology.
Ready mixes for leveling the floor have different prices, which are influenced by certain factors:
- Qualitative characteristics.
- Functions performed.
Each customer must decide for himself which floor leveling mixtures to choose. But special attention should be paid to the expiration date, which may come up in the near future. Sometimes even sellers put up such a product with discounts for sale. It is better to pay a slightly larger amount for the brand, but get really high-quality material for the self-leveling floor. in addition, we recommend watching a video on the choice of self-leveling floors.
