What plastic windows for loggias are there?

Any type of plastic windows is suitable for a loggia or balcony. It all depends on what? how much space on your hinged structure, what design and type of opening do you prefer, how much you are willing to spend. In total, the following types of structures are distinguished:

  • Sliding.
  • Swing-out.
  • Swivel.
  • Folding.

All constructions, except for the first one, are opened by turning the sash in vertical, horizontal or both directions. This design is considered the most common.

Sliding windows are most often used in places where there is no room to open the sash. The structure can move apart in different ways, for example, like a wardrobe, move to the side or up. In any case, only one condition is required: the wall should not be cluttered with things anywhere, no objects should hang on it that interfere with the movement of the sash.

If you want to create airtight, warm glazing, then it is better to refuse sliding doors. Regardless of the quality of the glass unit, they cannot provide a tight closing, therefore, most often they refer to cold glazing.

What to look for when choosing profiles?

The technology of glazing a balcony with plastic windows is quite simple, rarely causes difficulties, but you should trust it to trusted specialists. How the profile is installed depends on how well it can isolate the room. In addition, the correct choice of materials is an important condition. When buying windows, you need to pay attention to the following:

  • It is better to buy products from well-established, proven companies. If you buy a window for the first time, pay attention to the quality of the plastic: it should be smooth, pleasant to the touch, and not have visible pores.
  • Double-glazed windows, profiles and fittings should not be damaged.
  • Pay attention to the stiffness of the profile: the higher it is, the better. A quality product is always equipped with a metal insert, the width of which is at least 1.2 mm. It is best if galvanized steel is used as the material. It has sufficient rigidity and does not rust.
  • In order for the balcony to be warm enough, double-glazed windows are well suited, the glass thickness in which is at least 4 mm, but it is worth considering the mass of the structure. A square meter weighs about 30 kg, and not every balcony can withstand such a load.
  • A good design is one whose air chambers are filled with argon.
  • The quality of the fittings also plays a role. The durability of the opening mechanisms depends on it. It is better not to save money and immediately buy more expensive but high-quality accessories.

It is better to purchase fittings from European rather than Chinese ones, since the latter is often made of soft metal and does not withstand serious use.

The main stages of installation

The installation of the balcony glazing is carried out in stages, correct installation is the key to the durability and quality of the structure. After you have chosen a high-quality profile with suitable double-glazed windows, the most important stage begins - the installation of the structure. It happens according to the following scheme:

  • Balcony preparation. You will need to remove all interfering objects, debris, clean the structure from dust and dirt. You will need to leave or make new railing and frame. These elements are a good support for a plastic window. All structural elements must be securely fixed.

  • In order to fix the structure, wooden elements are not used, but special wedges are used for installation.
  • Roofing steel is used to secure the visor. The visor itself can be created from a light polymer coating, such as polycarbonate. The joints are closed with a sealant, then the ceiling, floor and walls of the balcony are insulated.
  • The PVC profile itself is mounted using anchor bolts and polyurethane foam. Less commonly, special mounting plates are used.
  • The presence of irregularities is checked using the building level, after the correct position of the profile is found, it is fixed with anchors.

For reliable fixation, the anchor must enter the concrete by at least 40 mm, if the walls or supports are brick, at least 6 mm.

  • Make sure that the frame and parapet are in the same plane from the inside.
  • In order to remove moisture, a drain must be fixed at the bottom of the frame.
  • The joints are filled with polyurethane foam, its layer must be at least 20 mm. Excess foam can be cut off after drying, after which the joints are covered with plaster or decorative overlays.
