Not so long ago, Knauf floors appeared in the construction industry, which immediately gained immense popularity. Everything here consists in a large number of advantages, despite the rather decent cost. But the price of the material significantly reduces the time required to complete the work, and much less effort is spent on installation.
Floor features
Bulk floor dry screed has distinctive features that are used in the production of natural ingredients. Their whole complex gives a high level of safety, long service life, and environmental friendliness.
Knauf floors can be used for the floor of not only a children's room or bedroom, but also storage rooms, garages with heating. In this case, the surface is ultimately flat.
During the work, it is not necessary to use wet solutions, which leads to the avoidance of leakage. The finished version of the floor practically does not load the floor. It is reduced by about 3-4 times compared to the "wet" version. As for the timing of the installation work, in a room with an area of up to 20 m2, everything can be done in about 8-10 hours.

In addition, knauf flooring can be laid all year round, regardless of temperature changes.
The leveled floor has excellent thermal and sound insulation properties. Basically, sand from expanded clay helps here. If necessary, you can easily dismantle the GVL, and the old mixture is replaced with a new one.
There are practically no materials that do not have shortcomings. That Paul Knauf is no exception. True, here they are not critical and you can easily close your eyes to them. If the mixture is filled with a large area, then the dustiness of the room cannot be avoided. So it is better to use a respirator, special glasses. Knauf flooring should not be carried out in rooms with high levels of humidity, as the water absorption is very high.
Preparatory activities

Old flooring must be removed prior to all major activities. Here it is not necessary to bring the evenness of the surface to the ideal, but it will only be sufficient to remove old debris, even from possible cracks. The life of the floor will be influenced by the base. So you should take care to put at least a vapor barrier film. Knauf dry screed should be laid without moisture under the backfill. Otherwise, the material will begin to swell, and the plates themselves will burst and crack. All work will have to start over.
It is for this reason that waterproofing has a dominant position. Before laying the moisture-resistant film, all cracks and holes should be repaired, and the existing wires should be placed in the corrugation and pressed to the floor. Alabaster will serve as a material for embedding. He freezes for a short time. The sheets of the film lie on top of each other with an overlap of at least 25-30 cm. To connect them, use construction tape. With its help, the film is fixed on the walls up to the exposed beacons.
Backfill floor
Do-it-yourself dry screed knauf is very easy and quick. Before starting work, it is best to take guide rails and wires with cutouts. They will be used for even backfill. The future floor crumbles along the entire perimeter of the room, after which it cannot be influenced. This applies to deformations that can occur, for example, when walking.

Even if there is a need to walk along the perimeter, then you can make a "path" from sheets of GVL. The most important thing is that the size of each piece is at least 50 * 50 cm. The surface of the dry screed must remain unchanged. There is no need to invent anything here. This suggests that for such a material as knauf floors, the laying technology will be understandable even to a non-professional in the construction industry.
Installation work

As soon as the dry knauf floor screed with your own hands is made over the entire area of the room, you can proceed to the installation work. We are talking here about arranging GVL sheets. There are some peculiarities here that should be known before starting work.
The first row of slabs should be located as far away from the entrance as possible. In the future, each subsequent sheet of GVL is stacked side by side. The maximum gap between them should not exceed 1 mm. That is, the density should be maximum. The existing joints are sealed with special glue. When laying the knauf screed floor, care should be taken that the floor surface remains unchanged, there is no damage. If there is a desire to make a really durable floor, then self-tapping screws will also come in handy in the work. The technology for the device of dry floors provides for the initial installation of the main row of plates, after which you can proceed to the second one. It can also start with trimming the slab, the size of which is at least a quarter of the whole piece. The styling feature also applies to the fact that in the presence of even walls,each sheet should fit tightly to them, and not just to each other. The resulting gap can be easily covered using polyurethane foam.

It is worth individually approaching the direction of the sheets. It will depend on the chosen room and preferences. When the laying of a dry Knauf floor is completed, the joints must be leveled, sanded and, if necessary, covered with putty.
The work is best done together. It will be difficult for one to hold the GVL plate on outstretched arms for a certain time, since its weight is 17 kg. Docking adhere to the same principle as when laying bricks.
Thickness selection
Knauf dry screed laying technology also provides for the choice of a specific thickness. The thickness of the expanded clay backfill is at least 20 mm and reaches 120 mm. Most often, two centimeters are chosen on the floor itself and on the laid slabs. Such calculations are especially important to make when doing work independently. Much will depend on the floor itself, its irregularities, which will have to be removed.

The device of Knauf floors is such that over time you need to be ready for shrinkage. This will be especially noticeable if the installation is carried out simultaneously in several rooms. And between them, elevation differences may appear. In any case, the minimum thickness of the knauf dry screed must be observed.
Required tool
When performing work, there should be all the necessary tools for a dry knauf screed with your own hands. In addition to the material - glue mastic, putty, sand from expanded clay, mixtures, there should be rules (best made of metal), a leveling rail, jigsaw, level, tape measure, profile (U-shaped), drill, screwdriver (when using self-tapping screws), pencil and stuff. Of course, everything from this list may not be useful at work. But anything can be and will depend on the specific situation.
Additional work
The device of a dry floor Knauf provides for some other types of work, to which, in addition to waterproofing, it is fashionable to include sound insulation. The best option is to use a damper tape from the wall. This moment eliminates the so-called "sound bridges", and in the presence of high temperatures, during thermal expansion, the floor does not deform. Fastening is carried out to all structures located vertically. The thickness will be sufficient in 8-10 mm.
As floor material, you can use:
- Linoleum;
- Parquet board;
- Carpet;
- Laminate;
- The tile is ceramic.
Some will think that it is not worth paying extra for such material, since you can find enough options for analogs that are much cheaper. But over time, everything will become clear that the service life differs noticeably in a larger direction, and during operation there will be no problems.
Advice
Knauf dry floor screed technology does not add additional difficulties for workers. Anyone can do it without the help of professionals who will require payment for their services. There are also subtleties here that you should know:
- The profiles are installed from the wall. The most important thing is that they are located parallel to each other. The average distance between them is taken at 140-160 cm. In this case, the rule should be greater in length than the specified distance. After all, the backfill must be leveled over the entire area.
- The technology of laying a bulk floor is not yet thoroughly known to everyone. For this reason, many cut the fold from those sheets that are located against the wall. In no case should this be done, since after a short time the floor in this place will begin to sag, which will be very conspicuous.
- The profiles must be removed after backfilling. If left on, the floor covering used may deform. Yes, and expanded clay is characterized by shrinkage, which cannot be said about the exposed elements. At the same time, the expanded clay itself should be dried as much as possible so that the deformation of the floor is minimal.
- The joints between the sheets are best glued with PVA glue. In this case, the assembled floor will acquire greater strength, and in the future it can be finished.
If the device of knauf bulk floors is made at the proper level and according to the rules and requirements from the manufacturer, then it will show all its positive aspects in practice. He will be able to serve for a long time and constantly delight.
