If you decide to paint the floor yourself, then for this, it must be very carefully prepared. Eliminate the gaps between the boards, patch up potholes, even out the bending of the floorboards, etc. The smoother the floor is fitted and leveled, the more beautiful and practical the surface will look in the end.

It is necessary to paint a completely dry floor. Before starting work, the ready-to-use paint must be thoroughly mixed and tested on a piece of dry board; it must be applied in a thin layer. The sample must be kept for about two days. If it does not stick to your fingers after this period, it means that it dries well. Before mixing drying oil and thickly grated paint, they should be checked separately beforehand. If they do not dry out completely in two days, then they are not suitable for work.

When using paint made according to modern technologies, these test methods disappear, since the manufacturer guarantees the specified drying times.

Plank floors must be painted in two or three layers. The first layer should dry for about a day, the second for about two. And a very important detail - when applying the top layer, the direction of movement of the brush or roller should coincide as much as possible with the direction of the wood grain.

Coloring can be simple, improved and high quality

Simple. The first layer is applied, not very thick consistency and after two days the second layer is applied. In the worst case, if some areas of your floor show through, a third layer is applied after a couple or three days. If the painting was carried out using drying oil, then its protruding residues are washed off with hot water, without the use of soap or soda, as they destroy the surface and reduce the gloss.

The paint should be applied in very thin layers, shading very carefully. Thick layers will wrinkle, dry for a long time, have an uneven surface and generally have an unattractive appearance. The thinner the layers applied and the better they are dried before applying the next layer, the higher the quality.

Coating of improved quality. In 1 liter of drying oil, add 100 - 150g. dry or grated paint, and thin the floor thoroughly. After two days, with putty, completely eliminate all existing defects. After the filler is completely dry, sand the entire floor with a medium-grained sandpaper, and then sand well. After that, apply the first coat, thinned to a thinner state than the one prepared for the base coats. Once dry, apply a final couple of coats.

High quality wood floor painting. It is performed in the same way as the improved one, but the floor surface is completely puttyed twice. It is recommended to make the putty colored by adding paint to it, the same color as the floor will be painted. Thus, the result will be beautiful, the joints of the boards are invisible, and the surface itself is very similar to linoleum.
