A varied range of linoleum patterns allow you to match it to any interior. Linoleum is a practical and simple material that does not require high qualifications for work. Correct cutting of linoleum before laying is one of the important conditions for the aesthetic appearance of the floor covering. Let's consider in detail how to properly trim linoleum and what is needed for this.
To properly cut linoleum you will need:
- notched trowel;
- sharpened knives;
- long ruler (2-3 m);
- square (1 m);
- short ruler.

- Prepare linoleum for cutting. Keep the rolls warm for at least 2 weeks to stabilize the dimensions. Unpack, roll out and cut the linoleum into sheets of the required length, taking into account the allowance for cutting and shrinkage. The longer the blade, the more allowance. With a blade length of more than 10 m, leave a margin of 50-60 mm, with a length of up to 10 m - 30-40 mm. For a small room up to 6 m long, leave a stock of linoleum no more than 20 mm. Stack the cut sheets for up to 4-5 days to fully straighten.
- Lay the prepared linoleum on the floor and mark the contours of the walls on it. Press the linoleum firmly to the floor with a ruler. Make a puncture and a small incision with a sharp knife. Continuing to press down on both sides of the cut, cut with a straight edge along the entire perimeter. When you get to the corner, make a V-notch in the linoleum. If the room has a complex floor contour (pipes, columns, bay window, etc.), prepare the patterns of protruding parts in advance. First, mark out on thin paper or newspaper, and then transfer it to cardboard. Cut linoleum in difficult areas in small strips and exactly according to the pattern.
- Cut the colored linoleum. Pre-lay the material with the pattern facing up. After laying the linoleum sheet parallel to the wall, press it with a long ruler and cut it off. Where one canvas ends, you need to put the next. Carefully select the pattern of the adjacent pieces, and overlap them at the junction. Indicate the future seam. To prevent the linoleum from moving when cutting, place a heavy object on it. Slowly cut two layers with a ruler and collect the cuttings. In rooms with a large area, you have to cut several canvases and select patterns along the linoleum border. If this is the case, use a ruler and a knife to trim the joining edges, keeping in mind the exact alignment of the pattern.
