Wooden floors, doors, windows - all of them periodically require repair and painting. Instead of calling the master every time, you can prepare for this work and do it yourself.

To paint a tree you need:
- material for painting;
- brush;
- putty;
- primer;
- putty knife;
- building hair dryer or chemical cleaner;
- sandpaper.
Stages
The choice of material for painting
There are many types of paints and varnishes for wood of various shades, degrees of transparency and gloss on the market. Select the material for the covering depending on the type of wood and the design of the room.
Oil enamels are suitable for all types of wood (including resinous). They are good for covering rough surfaces, since these enamels are highly wear resistant.
For cosmetic repairs, use acrylic enamels. They are water-soluble and less wear-resistant than oil. They do not have such a pronounced shine. Acrylic enamels dry quickly and are suitable for all types of wood (except resinous).
To obtain a transparent coating, use varnishes - oil or water-based polyurethane. The former are more wear-resistant, but the water-based ones dry faster. Varnishes are also tinted, with the addition of stains.
Prepare your painting inventory
Pick up a brush. If you intend to work with small details, stock up on small brushes. To polish the surface, you need sandpaper, preferably fine sandpaper.
Prepare the surface before painting the wood
If there is already one or more layers of paint on it, which comes off and does not adhere well, it is better to peel it off. To do this, use a building hairdryer - under its influence, the old paint will peel off, remove it with a spatula.
Cleansing
Instead of a hair dryer, you can use chemical cleaners (washes-disintegrants). After a chemical cleaner, wipe the wood with vinegar and clean water to neutralize the alkali formed. If the old layer of paint is relatively flat and firmly in place, putty can be dispensed with. Then remove dust from the surface - wipe with a lint-free cloth.
Puttying
Wood surfaces often require a putty. To make the paint lay evenly, repair defects, scratches and holes, if any. Use a putty, smooth it gently so that there is no need for sanding later. Better take a thin brush. Keep in mind that once the putty has hardened, you will not be able to perfectly level it.
Removing irregularities and holes
Use construction foam to seal large holes, and cut off excess with a knife when the foam hardens. If there are slight irregularities, sand the surface with sandpaper. Cover the putty with linseed oil before painting to avoid cracking.
Padding
You can prime the surface just before painting (although this is not necessary). A primer is desirable, especially when the surface is uneven. A primer is an impregnating material that forms a uniform film on the surface. It closes pores, sticks together dust, reduces the consumption of varnishes and paints, and extends the life of wood. Apply the primer in one coat and wait at least two hours before painting.
Painting
Start painting. Brush a few vertical stripes across the wood, dipping it into the paint again each time. Spread the paint over the surface. So color it all over.
Useful Tips
To be on the safe side, wear a respirator and gloves, especially when working with a blow dryer and chemical cleaners.
Start in the morning with good lighting.
