Often times, room design changes require changing the color of the window frame. But what to do if plastic structures are installed in the room, is it possible to paint the plastic windows in a different color, or do you have to change the frame? It is possible to paint the plastic structure, but this requires special paint. Alternatively, laminate can be used.
Features of the painting process
Standard plastic window frames have a white frame. This is the most common and cheapest type of windows; less often you can find brown plastic or lamination under a tree, but this option must be ordered in advance. If the windows have already been installed, and the renovated interior of the room requires a frame of any other color, there is only one way out: paint the plastic windows. The positive side of this process is that you can pick up paint of any color and paint the frame in any shade that can match the colors of the furniture or walls. Such a solution will help the window to blend harmoniously into the updated interior, to become its original or, on the contrary, an invisible part.
Plastic painting differs technologically from a similar process with any other material. The surface may not require special preparation, but you need to use a special paint. Conventional paints used, for example, for painting wood or concrete surfaces are not suitable, as they will not stick to PVC surfaces.

Process technology
Let's say you are tired of a white frame, and you are thinking about how to paint plastic windows brown. To do this, you will need to purchase the following items:
- Brush.
- Roulette.
- Building level.
- The spatula and the paint itself.
Before starting work, you will need to carefully study the surface of the plastic. It must be cleaned of dust, dirt, degreased and dried. If there are traces of sealant, polyurethane foam, glue on it, they must be completely removed. Removing dust is easy with compressed air. The protective film must be removed from the plastic. In order not to stain the remaining surfaces with paint, they can be sealed with masking tape or cellophane film if the surface area is large.

Paint for plastic windows does not stick to oily surfaces. Static electricity also interferes with its fixation. You can get rid of these problems with a plastic window cleaner. You need to spread it using a regular cloth, wiping the PVC with smooth movements.

Application of painting tools
You need to take care of buying paint in advance, since surface preparation should take place immediately before painting, otherwise dust will settle on it, and everything will have to be done from the beginning. When choosing how to paint plastic windows, pay attention to whether there is a mark on the can with paint that it can be used to paint surfaces made of polyvinyl chloride. If such a mark is present, the paint can be safely purchased.
It is most convenient to apply paint using a special gun. It ensures an even distribution of the layer over the entire surface, does not leave marks like a brush and minimizes the formation of bubbles.
In order for the staining to be successful, paint must be applied in a room with a temperature of at least 18 degrees Celsius. The humidity should be minimal, the room should be clean and dry.
Ideally, the paint should be 80 microns thick. Again, only a pistol can provide this. When applied by hand, paint layers will be uneven. If the layer is thicker, then you need to be prepared for the fact that it will take a lot of time for the profile to dry. And this can lead to the fact that the decorative appearance of the coating will be hopelessly damaged.

Before painting plastic windows brown or choosing any other shade, you must take into account that when a thick layer of paint is applied, drying will take a long time and unevenly, which can affect the decorative appearance of the windows. The work will have to be redone.
If you prefer metallic paint, please note that this coating is applied in two layers. You can reapply the paint only after its first coat is completely dry. Under ideal conditions, this process takes about 10 hours, it is better to wait longer, this will ensure complete drying of the paint. It is recommended to use a clear varnish instead of the second coat. It will provide high-quality protection of the first layer, make the coating smooth, and will not disturb its color scheme.

Ways to paint the frame
Co-extrusion painting of plastic windows is one of the most common. It allows you to obtain a variety of tones and colors, while the surface of the profile is acrylic, it becomes smooth, has an attractive appearance. If you want a velvety matte finish, you can use acrylic varnish instead of paint. It adheres perfectly to plastic surfaces and has a variety of shades.
Painting of plastic windows will not cause difficulties in the operation of the structure in the future. Windows will be just as easy to clean, paint won't wash off or get scratched. The materials are highly resistant to mechanical damage, however, it is not recommended to use caustic substances to clean the window. Any paint can withstand the effects of window cleaner without problems.

Features of work
Can plastic windows be painted if their profile is dark? Quite, but for this you will need to apply an acrylic film to the surface of the profile. You can paint windows in any color, choose different shades, even use wood-like lamination. It should be borne in mind that paint on plastic can have a slightly different shade than the same substance on any other material. Before painting the entire window, try applying paint to an inconspicuous area to assess its saturation.
Knowing how to paint plastic windows, you can carry out this work yourself, avoiding significant expenses when replacing the frame or hiring specialists.
