Renovation in the bathroom ends with the choice of plumbing. This issue needs to be approached very carefully. Plumbing should organically fit into the interior of the room. But when it comes to the toilet, many are wondering which edition to give preference to.

Type of plumbing by release

To date, a wide range of sanitary ware is presented in stores, which makes it somewhat difficult to choose. This is especially true for the toilet. Before you go to the store, you need to determine how the sewer pipe is located. Depending on this, toilets come with this release:

  • direct;
  • oblique;
  • horizontal.

In toilets with horizontal outlet, the drain is flush with the sewer pipe. Most often, such a scheme is found in imported products. Recently, they have been widely used in new buildings. In this case, the plumbing is installed directly against the wall. The horizontal outlet of the toilet is connected to the sewer by means of special cuffs.

The advantages of such a toilet include ease of installation, an aesthetic appearance and a convenient location for repair. There is a large selection of designs for such products on the market. This will allow everyone to choose the right option for themselves. Of course, one should not forget about the shortcomings, the main of which is the fragility of connecting plumbing to the sewer. The horizontal outlet of the toilet will leak over time.

With vertical outlet, the drain is directed directly to the floor. Often these toilets are used in private homes. No noise occurs during operation. The product has an aesthetic appearance and allows you to save space in the toilet. The toilet with a direct outlet is presented in a wide range, which makes it easy to choose a model for the design of the room. Connecting a toilet with a vertical outlet can be easily done with your own hands.

Toilets with vertical outlet can be funnel-shaped, rounded and designer-shaped. In the latter case, we are talking about custom plumbing. It is also worth noting that modern models are equipped with a single-mode, dual-mode and contactless drainage system. The second option is good because it can be used to reduce water consumption. As for the contactless system, it is rarely used due to its high cost.

Quality slanting toilets have a long history. They began to be produced during the Soviet Union. The production is still operating today. Therefore, if the toilet breaks down, then it can be replaced with a new one, but with serious effort. In such toilets, the drain is located at an angle to the floor, which allows you to connect it directly to the cast-iron elbow. In this case, the choice of a toilet with an oblique outlet must be approached very carefully.

If necessary, such plumbing can be installed in place of a toilet with a direct outlet, which is widely used in new buildings. To install oblique toilets, you need to purchase an adapter for a sewer pipe. The corrugation must be of high quality, which will ensure the durability of the connection. In this case, the use of a sealant is mandatory.

Installation Features: Pipe Fittings

When choosing a toilet, you should pay attention to the location of the sewer pipe. This will allow you to calculate the time of installation of plumbing and the costs that will go away. In some cases, it may be necessary to adjust the branch to a particular exhaust system. If the connection is made using a background pipe, then this will create the appearance of the unity of the plumbing with the connecting elements made of the same material.

Plumbing installation has its own characteristics. The parts must match the flare of the sewer pipe. This is very important as the connector cannot be adjusted by cutting it off.

During installation, eccentric cuffs are used. They are made of polymeric materials and consist of two branches, whose axes are shifted relative to each other. Products can have different lengths, which will allow you to choose the best option for connecting plumbing to the sewer, even if the outlet and the socket do not match.

As for the corrugation or corrugated pipe, it has a plastic shape. This makes the part easy to stretch and compress. It can also be bent at any angle. This greatly facilitates the installation of the toilet. The main thing is to choose the bending angle of the corrugated pipe so that there are no problems with the passage of drains.

Also, don't forget about the sealant. With its help, the connection is given strength, which will ensure reliable operation of the plumbing for a long time.

In addition, the following tools are needed to install the toilet:

  • an adjustable wrench or a set of wrenches;
  • set of screwdrivers;
  • a hacksaw for metal, with which the dismantling of old plumbing will be carried out;
  • sandpaper;
  • hammer drill with victorious drill;
  • a hammer;
  • dowels;
  • cement.

After all the tools and materials are prepared, you can proceed directly to dismantling the old toilet and performing other preparatory work.

Dismantling work

Previously, in older houses, sewage was made of cast iron pipes. If necessary, they can be replaced with plastic products. Before starting work, you need to know that modern pipes have a slightly smaller diameter than cast iron products. Therefore, a special rubber cuff is required for the connection. Before installing it, you need to thoroughly clean the sewer socket from rust and other contaminants.

Dismantling begins with removing the mortar at the junction of the socket and the pipe. To complete the work, you will need a screwdriver (chisel) and a hammer. The screwdriver is placed on the cement and starts tapping on it with a hammer. When all the cement is removed, a stick is installed in the pipe and it is started to move up and down. This will stir the joint and pull the pipe out of the socket.

After that, the socket is cleaned of rust and plaque. To do this, use an electric drill with a special attachment. Large pieces can be removed with a chisel or screwdriver. After that, the walls of the socket are treated with a special substance that corrodes the dirt. This will make cleaning the pipe much easier. At the final stage, the bell is wiped with a clean cloth.

Partial replacement of sewer pipes allows to facilitate the installation of plumbing, as well as extend the life of the system. Preparatory work also includes cleaning the site from various debris and contaminants that remain at the installation site of the old device. The area must be thoroughly cleaned, especially when it comes to vertical outlet appliances.

When drilling holes for fixing dowels, it is worth considering the features of installing a plumbing fixture. In particular, this concerns the requirements for the place of their installation. The design project is also taken into account here. If necessary, the device can be shifted to the side. This is possible thanks to the use of corrugated pipes.

Installation of a product with vertical outlet

Installation of toilets with direct outlet is most often carried out in cottages and old houses. Here, the siphon and the branch pipe are the structural elements of plumbing. Therefore, they are not visible after installation. Basically, the toilet is installed at a short distance from the wall. This is due to the fact that pipeline fittings take up little space. Before installing the device, you must remove the old toilet and prepare the site.

Installation is carried out using the following technology:

  • Make markings for fasteners. Install the screw type flange. It has a retainer and a hole. The flange is used to tightly join the plumbing fixture with the sewer pipe in the floor.
  • Put the toilet back in place and check that all the docking holes are aligned. After that, the device turns slightly, which leads to the docking of the two elements. An O-ring is placed between the parts, which guarantees a tight connection.

The installation of the direct outlet toilet is complete. It remains only to connect the device to the water supply system and check it in operation. Particular attention should be paid to the tightness of the joints.

Installing the appliance with a horizontal outlet

If the sewer riser is installed vertically, then it is better to opt for a device with a horizontal outlet. This will greatly simplify installation. The product is installed in close proximity to the socket of the sewer pipe. This feature must be taken into account when designing a bathroom.

The toilet is connected using a cuff or corrugated pipe. However, experts recommend using silicone sealants. This will prevent leaks and odor from the drain.

If the toilet needs to be displaced relative to the sewer socket, then a plastic corner with a small pipe or a corrugated pipe is used for the connection. In this case, do not forget about the rubber cuff, which ensures the tightness of the connection.

Toilet with oblique outlet: installation features

Such plumbing was widely used in the second half of the twentieth century. It was at that time that cast iron pipes were used for the construction of the sewer system. This complicates the installation of the device somewhat. Indeed, in such cases, you need to carefully dock the toilet with the sewer socket.

The joint is covered with cement. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the cement mortar does not get into the sewer riser.

Before putting the toilet bowl into the sewer bell, the outlet is lubricated with a mixture of drying oil and red lead. Then a strand of resin is wound around it so that its end remains free. The release is re-lubricated with red lead. All that remains is to install the toilet and fix it in place.

Also, the connection of the plumbing fixture with the sewage system is carried out using rubber cuffs. In order for the connection to be reliable and tight, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the socket from the old cement. If the toilet needs to be displaced relative to the drain, then it is better to opt for a corrugated pipe.
