Over time, in every home there is a need to replace plumbing. And for the most part, all processes are carried out independently. One of the tasks is to install the toilet with your own hands, which is actually quite simple. It is enough to know a number of features, and to fully comply with the algorithm for performing work. But first of all, you need to know what toilets are in order to choose the right installation technology.

Types of toilets

First of all, you should consider the varieties of designs and forms of this type of plumbing, so as not to make mistakes during installation.

First, consider the classification of toilets and their features. In total, four types are noted, namely:

  1. Hinged. This type does not come into contact with the floor covering, and is mounted directly to the wall using special fasteners. A wall structure is being made, which provides all the necessary communications. Thus, the whole system looks pretty attractive. But this type is quite rare, due to the complexity of installation and rather high cost.
  2. Attached. The second option is the attachment system, which implies the installation of the toilet itself on the floor, but at the same time all communications, as well as the cistern, are hidden behind the wall. The only thing that remains visible is the drain button. The option is quite attractive, but at the same time, if any problems arise, a large number of disadvantages appear.
  3. Intra-floor system. Such a system is known to all by the example of public toilets. Includes installation directly into the floor recess. Those. an ordinary hole in the floor, which is rather inconvenient. Therefore, it makes no sense to consider this type in more detail, since hardly anyone will install such a miracle of technology at home.
  4. Outdoor. And the last type of system is outdoor. These are well-known and familiar toilets that are attached directly to the floor. The design itself is inexpensive and easy to install. It is on the example of such a standard toilet that we will consider the installation process.

We have finished with the types of systems, and now we can proceed directly to the consideration of the work algorithm.

Self-assembly of the toilet

Having picked up a toilet for yourself, you can proceed to its installation, the process itself is divided into several stages, including:

  1. Dismantling of old plumbing (if any).
  2. Surface preparation and marking.
  3. Self-installation of the toilet and its connection.

Each of these points must be disassembled in as much detail as possible in order to avoid mistakes during work.

Required tool

When installing the toilet with your own hands, the following tools will be needed:

  • adjustable wrench;
  • electric drill with concrete drills;
  • for thread sealing - "fum" tape;
  • screwdriver with nozzles;
  • core;
  • a hammer;
  • corrugated pipe for connection to the sewer;
  • silicone sealant.

With the tool sorted out, let's move on to considering each stage of work.

Dismantling plumbing

Now let's get down to work, and the first step is to dismantle the old plumbing, if any. Here it is worth knowing that there are several options for attaching the toilet, and in each case, the dismantling technique will be slightly different.

In particular, the types of fasteners are divided into the following:

  1. Taffeta.
  2. Glue mastic.
  3. Standard mounts.

And now we will consider what each of the types is and how to dismantle them.

Taffeta

The first option is taffeta. It is a board walled up in the floor, which becomes a kind of pedestal and at the same time a fixture for plumbing.

The fastening itself in this case is carried out using special screws and washers made of rubber. The dismantling process itself is carried out as follows:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to shut off the water supply, i.e. tank valve.
  2. The next step is to detach the eyeliner.
  3. Next, unscrew the screws.
  4. Quite often, the outlet is sealed with cement, if you are going to throw out the old toilet, you can break the cement with a puncher, but if you need to keep the plumbing intact, then use a hammer and chisel for this.
  5. You can also just hit well under the bowl (in the event that the toilet is no longer needed). In this case, the pipe will be broken and the remaining parts can be removed.

On this, this type of equipment is considered dismantled.

Glue mastics

This option involves gluing the toilet with a special mastic. It is quite rare and in those cases when repairmen want to do everything as quickly as possible, while forgetting about the quality of work.

Dismantling the structure in this case is quite simple, it is enough to hit the toilet bowl well with your hand several times, as a result of which the glue will come off. The only thing left for you to do is disconnect the issue.

Standard mount

This refers to the external screwing of the toilet bowl to the floor. This is quite rare, although it is the most correct.

Dismantling is carried out as follows:

  1. We shut off the water supply and disconnect the cistern from the toilet.
  2. Disconnect the drain.
  3. We unscrew the bolts that are hidden behind the decorative plugs at the bottom of the toilet.
  4. And, accordingly, we remove the toilet itself.

Preparing for installation

The dismantling stage can be considered complete, now it is worth pre-preparing the surface before starting the installation of the toilet with your own hands.

And here there are a number of factors that must be observed:

  1. The floor must be level, if necessary, it is additionally required to level the floor (screed or tiles).
  2. If the new toilet has the same fastening as the old one, then you can reinstall it in the old place. In this case, the old dowels must be drilled out and new ones installed in their place.
  3. If the old toilet was concreted, and after dismantling it, there is a depression in the floor, then it is better to make a screed. The screed dries from 1 to 3 days (depending on the components).

Next, you need to figure out what type of toilet is installed in order to understand which technology to use, since they are somewhat different.

In total, three types are distinguished, namely:

  1. Vertical.
  2. Horizontal.
  3. Oblique.

And then we will analyze the installation technology for each of the mentioned varieties.

Installation of a vertical toilet

Such plumbing involves the arrangement of a vertical sewer supply, but its installation is carried out as follows:

  1. First of all, it is worth cleaning the sewer bell, removing debris from it and putting things in order.
  2. Next, a special cuff is attached to the bell, which is fixed with a sealant.
  3. An outlet is inserted into the cuff, but at this stage it is not sealed, it is currently used to apply marks.
  4. On the floor, it is necessary to make markings for the place of the toilet and for its fastening. Now you have to prepare the necessary holes, for which a drill or screwdriver is used.
  5. It is imperative to take into account all the properties of the floor covering. If it is made of tiles, then first you have to drill the tiles with a special drill, and then concrete, using a puncher.
  6. To prevent the drill from walking on the tile, you can make small chips with a core at the drilling sites, then you will be able to drill neat holes. You can find out more about how to drill a tile in a separate material.
  7. Dowels are driven into the holes. Note that the dowels should sit tightly, the stability of the toilet depends on this.
  8. Next, the mount is screwed to the floor with special bolts.
  9. Now we apply the sealant to the outlet and fix it in the cuff with screws.
  10. The actual problem in the work is damage to the tiles, therefore the installation should be carried out as carefully as possible. The bolts should be tightened alternately and evenly, which eliminates the risk of warping and damage to the plumbing.
  11. In addition, it is absolutely impossible to tighten it all the way. The toilet is screwed on until it stops wobbling or dangling.
  12. To improve fixing, it is recommended to lubricate all gaps with additional cement-sand mortar or sealant.

    self-assembly of the toilet
    self-assembly of the toilet

The toilet itself is installed directly, but its connection remains:

  1. To connect cold water, you can use a copper pipe or a flexible metal-plastic hose. If the cold water pipe has an internal thread, an adapter is required.
  2. The adapter is installed using tow. The tube or hose is connected to the cold water supply.
  3. Then you need to open the tap and drain some of the water, so all the debris will come out of the tube. Having closed the tap, we attach the second end of the hose (tube) to the tank.
  4. A prerequisite when installing the toilet with your own hands is the absence of contact with ceramics of nuts and other metal fasteners. Therefore it is necessary to use rubber or plastic spacers.

This completes the work and the plumbing is ready for use.

Horizontal mounting

We have dealt with the vertical release, and now let's move on to the horizontal one.

In cases where the sewage system provides for the connection of a horizontal toilet bowl, all installation work will be carried out similarly to the previous instructions.

When the toilet doesn't fit, there are several things that are noted:

  1. Directly the installation of the toilet itself will be carried out as well, its connection to the sewer becomes a distinctive feature.
  2. The liner is carried out using a corrugation and an eccentric.
  3. These elements are mounted with a sealant on one side to the toilet outlet, on the other to the sewer collar.
  4. Corrugation stretching becomes a very important factor. Namely, it is worth saying that it should not be stretched too much, since in the future there will be a risk of fecal deposits, respectively, clogging of the sewer and a breakthrough.

The procedure for installing a conventional toilet with an oblique system

The oblique installation method is used when the outlet level of the toilet is higher or lower than the bell. And in this case, there are two options for solving the problem:

  1. Using corrugation, as in the previous case. Or the use of sewage weave. In this case, it is necessary to measure the required distance, and equip such a fragment between the bell and the toilet. Fixing it is carried out with a sealant.
  2. And the second option is the use of special pipes in the shape of the letter S. In this case, you have to additionally shift the position of the toilet bowl by 15-20 centimeters. For the most part, there is such an opportunity.

If the use of such two options is impossible, then it is necessary either to lower the toilet bowl (equip it in a small depression) or, on the contrary, build a pedestal in order to directly connect it to the socket.

This will complete the work, you can operate the system, having previously checked for leaks or malfunctions.

The most reliable (old-fashioned) way is to fix the toilet bowl to cement mortar. To do this, mix 1/3 of cement with sand and fill it under the cavity of the toilet. The excess is removed and left for 2 days.

Conclusion

As you can see, installing a toilet is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Therefore, do not be afraid to take on such tasks on your own, especially since installation instructions are attached to any element of plumbing, which helps to better understand the process.

Of course, in some cases, you may not be able to do the work yourself, due to a lack of time, desire, any tool, and then you should contact the specialists. But still, it's worth trying to do everything yourself, and in the end we offer you a few video tools on how to install the toilet yourself.
