The Hitachi DH24PC3 rock drill can be extended uptime by meeting maintenance deadlines.
Maintenance of the hammer drill consists in the timely replacement of all rubber O-rings, grease, and worn parts.
In Hitachi DH24PC3 rotary hammers, it is recommended to use the types of lubricants recommended by the manufacturer. And the manufacturer recommends using lubricants specially designed for Hitachi rotary hammers. The Hitachi hammer drill is considered Japanese, although it is made in China.
Lubricants are divided into types:
- for liquid lubricating oils, which are refined petroleum oils with additives used for lubrication of high-speed, light-loaded units;
- for grease or grease lubricating oils made from synthetic or petroleum oils with various additives and thickeners.
The main characteristic of a lubricant is determined by its viscosity, acid number, and melting point.
The characteristics of the oils used by tool manufacturers are often kept secret. This is done so that the user who bought the tool of this or that company does not rack his brains, but buys the lubricant recommended by the tool manufacturer.
In rotary hammers, it is recommended to use grease lubricants designed for heavy-duty bearings that operate in conditions of frequent reversals, at low speeds. In addition, greases in the hammer drill also play the role of a sealant and preservative.

Knowing the requirements and operating conditions of individual perforator units, you can choose a lubricant from the group of domestic lubricants.
Among domestic lubricants, such lubricants as Litol-24, TsIATIM-203, TsIATIM-221F have similar characteristics.
What lubricant is used in the Hitachi DH24PC3 rotary hammer
Hitachi DH24PC3 rock drills use three types of lubricants: for bearings and gears, for rubber O-rings, and for drill shanks.
Any lubricant must meet certain requirements:
- the desired viscosity;
- melting or ignition point;
- shear strength;
- dropping point.
Hitachi rock drills use bearings that do not require additional lubrication. But when mounting the bearing, it is necessary to lubricate its seat and the outer diameter of the cage.
The Hitachi DH24PC3 rock drill uses the following bearings:
- bearing 37 mm, article 6904DD, dimensions 20x37x9, Russian analogue 1000904, item 15;
- bearing 19 mm, article 626VVM, dimensions 6x19x6, Russian analogue 26, pos. 56;
- bearing 22 mm, article 608DDM, dimensions 8x22x7, Russian analogue 80018, pos. 60;
- bearing 22 mm, article 608VVM, dimensions 8x22x7, Russian analogue 60018, pos. 66.
New grease is applied to the cleanly washed surface of the parts or assembly.
Disassembled rotary hammer grease is dark dirty in color. This color results from wear on metal parts and rubber o-rings.

Before assembly, all parts are thoroughly washed in kerosene or gasoline and dried.
Do not get solvents on rubber products.
Be sure to replace the grease.
Bearing and gear lubrication
As a rule, rock drills use bearings filled with the correct lubricant. However, when mounting the bearings, it is necessary to lubricate the seats for better pressing.
The 6904DD bearing, pos. 15, is installed in the housing, pos. 10, into which the barrel, pos. 24, is pressed. Shock loads are applied to the bearing.

It is preferable to lubricate the barrel pressing unit with a special Hitachi lubricant. But the lubricants of domestic manufacturers give equally good results. The photo shows a grease produced by Russian manufacturers specifically for lubricating gearboxes.
It is recommended to use it when lubricating gears, gears, drunken bearing couplings.
Lubrication of rubber o-rings
During operation, rubber sealing rings are subjected to strong heating due to friction and air pressure in the piston. If the O-rings are not lubricated, friction increases, which leads to even more heating. When installing new O-rings, be sure to lubricate their mounting locations. It is recommended to use a Hitachi lubricant.
But if you lubricate rubber O-rings with domestic grease, whose dropping point exceeds + 100 °, then the result will be quite good. The main thing is to use a grease that not only has high lubricating properties, but also has sealing properties.
It is best to use the domestic Litol 24 grease.
There are two warnings:
- if your tool is under warranty, and you decide to carry out maintenance yourself, it is recommended to use those lubricants that the manufacturer insists to use;
- lubricants of domestic manufacturers retain their properties for a shorter time and require more frequent replacement.
Drill Shank Lubricants
Hitachi DH24PC3 rotary hammers are equipped with SDS-plus keyless chucks. The design of the chuck provides for the use of a working tool with a special shank. The reliability of the grip of the working tool is ensured by a special shank design. But in the course of work, a periodic tool change is required.
For easier disconnection of the working tool from the keyless chuck, special lubricants are used.

As a rule, rock drill manufacturers recommend using special drill lubricants. The Hitachi DH24PC3 rock drills use lubricants developed by Hitachi to lubricate the drills.

Russian manufacturers produce a number of lubricants, which, with equal lubricating properties, are much cheaper.
Domestic lubricants
A few words about Russian lubricants.
Litol-24 grease is manufactured in accordance with GOST 21150-87 based on a mixture of mineral oils and lithium soap. Anti-acid and adhesive additives are added to the mixture.
It is recommended to use Litol-24 in friction units, rolling and sliding bearings, gear drives where the operating temperature does not exceed + 120 ° C.
Tsiatim-203 grease is produced according to GOST 8773-73 from petroleum transformer oil with the addition of lithium soap and asidol as a thickener and additives to increase the viscosity and strengthen anti-seize. Recommended for the lubrication of drill shanks in SDS keyless chucks.
Tsiatim-224 greaseproduced in accordance with GOST 9433-80, is a heat-resistant organosilicon liquid, soap with an anti-acid additive is added as a thickener. The grease is inert to rubber and is recommended for lubricating O-rings.
Conclusions:
- the use of lubricants from domestic manufacturers is allowed;
- domestic lubricants are much cheaper;
- when using lubricants from Russian manufacturers, remember that they should be replaced more often;
- do not overheat the instrument, do not press on the instrument in the "Impact" mode;
- constantly check the condition of the carbon brushes;
- if available, use the lubricants recommended by the tool manufacturer.
