Purpose of different types of files

What are they intended for:

  1. Square files are intended for processing rectangular surfaces.
  2. Rectangular files are versatile, they can be used to finish almost any surface, including shaped ones.
  3. Semicircular files are used for processing concave surfaces.
  4. Triangular files are used for finishing triangular holes and corners.
  5. Round files are suitable for round holes.

There are also special files that can be oval, diamond-shaped or sword-shaped.

Types and types of files

Files are:

  1. Single cut.
  2. Double serrated.

The first filing is more difficult to perform, due to the fact that it removes the metal layer in the form of shavings.

A file with a double notch crushes the chips, turning them into sawdust.

The metal surface can be filed in two ways:

Fine filing is carried out with a personal file with a length of 125–450 mm.

Rough filing is carried out with a broom file of the same length. After that, the surface to be treated is adjusted with a velvet file having a length of 125–250 mm.

File work is also used for finishing various surfaces:

  • gaps;
  • grooves;
  • planes;
  • grooves.

In addition, with their help, you can give metal parts the required size and shape, process the edge of the parts, etc. To file the part correctly, filing is carried out in a cross way:

  • first, the file is moved from left to right;
  • then from right to left.

To check how smoothly the part is cut, a ruler or square is applied to the surface of the part. In the event that there are no gaps between the ruler and the plane, then everything is done correctly.
