The main purpose of this tool is to level the surface of boards or wood-based panels along the grain. Working with an electric planer carries out planing with rotating cutters, driven by an electric motor. The front ski lifts and lowers periodically to adjust how deep the cutter penetrates the wood. Before starting work with the electric plane, the board must be fixed to the workbench. After that, the tool is carried over the surface, and it is not pressed on, but only helps to advance in a given direction.
The plane should only move in the direction of grain growth. It is important to ensure that sawdust and shavings do not fall under the skis. The planer must be turned off before the second and third passes on the surface of the wood, return to its original position and only then turn it on again. If a break is necessary, the plane is turned off and placed on its side or with skis up. Safety measures when working with a planer consist mainly in a preliminary check of the serviceability of the wiring, turning off the cutting tool during a break and handling it carefully during work.
The surface processed with an electric plane is not always smooth and even. The occurrence of defects is possible if the cutters are not sharpened or are incorrectly and unevenly located in the groove relative to the level of the skis. At the end of the work, the cutters should be removed from the grooves, cleaned with kerosene and put in a box. You must take precautions when using power tools, including electric planer and saw, to avoid accidents.
