Linoleum flooring is done after all construction and repair work. You must first prepare the surface. It should be perfectly smooth and even. You should also clean the floor from paint and oil stains. If the base is a cement-sand screed, then the finished floor will be cold. As a base for linoleum, you can use plywood or chipboard, but these materials are afraid of moisture.
Before the production of work, linoleum should lie down in the room in a rolled form for a day or two. In this case, the temperature in the room should be at least +18 degrees. The edges of the linoleum should go on the wall by 5 cm. And when trimming, the coating should not reach the wall by 1.5 cm. Now a few tips to know how to lay linoleum correctly.
Linoleum markup - drawing, if any, must be matched. Cutting is carried out with a margin, since the material shrinks. If the length is 6 m - 20 mm, 10 m - 30 - 40 mm, more than 10 m - 60 mm. It is better to choose wide linoleum so that there are no seams at all. In this case, the coating is laid in any direction. If the coating consists of stripes and wakes up the seams, then you need to lay it from the window, so the joints will be less noticeable.
If the room is small (up to 20 square meters), then the linoleum can not be glued to the base. At the edges, it is attached with plinths. If the room is large, then it is recommended to glue the flooring. For this, special mastics are used. You must first prime the base and the back of the linoleum. If oil-chalk mastic is used for gluing, then the surfaces are primed with drying oil. If it is bituminous or rubber-bituminous, the drying oil should be diluted with gasoline (ratio 1: 3). Also, the canvases can be glued using special adhesives. After priming, both the linoleum (unfolded) and the base must be allowed to dry. Laying linoleum with your own hands using video examples will still be more understandable, so be sure to watch a good video on renovating an apartment and linoleum in particular - below.
The mastic is applied to the base with a notched trowel and leveled. You can apply mastic both to the linoleum and to the base, but if you want to redecorate the floor, such a coating will be difficult to tear off. If there is one canvas per room (no seams), then the mastic can be applied only along the perimeter. If the coating is made of separate stripes, then the entire surface of the base is coated. Adjacent sheets are overlapped (3 cm), but the edges should not be smeared with mastic. After drying, the joints are trimmed under the ruler, so the seams will be smoother. The edges can be glued with double-sided tape, and the seams can be sealed with special glue or cold welding fluid. All joints are sealed after the mastic has completely dried. After laying the canvas, it is rolled from the middle to the walls. The mastic dries for about three days. After complete drying, you can mount the skirting boards.
