What needs to be done

If you want to do the installation of drainpipes with your own hands, then:

  1. To make the rim of the funnel, a workpiece is cut out having a width equal to the length of the upper side of the trapezoidal workpiece for the cone, and then its edges are folded back to connect to the cone.
  2. After that, the workpiece is bent and folded.
  3. Then two stiffening rollers are rolled out on the finished rim and the edge is flanged into which a wire having a diameter of 14 mm is rolled.
  4. For a cone, it is required to cut a workpiece in the shape of an isosceles trapezoid. Its upper side in length should be equal to the width of the blank for the glass, and the length of the lower side should correspond to the width of the blank for the rim.
  5. On the resulting workpiece, first bend the folded edges, and then roll it into a cone on rolling with the bending shaft deflected. The generatrix cone must be rebated.
  6. The edges of the rectangular glass blank should be connected and clamped. At the final stage, the glass is inserted into the pipe link.

The material for the manufacture of straight links of downpipes is standard steel sheets, which, depending on the diameter of the downpipe and the required number of links, are cut across or along. Then the workpiece is given a slight taper, shortening one of its sides by 5–6 mm. This is necessary so that the finished links fit well into each other.

The blank of the link with the edges bent for seam connection is rolled up manually on a steel pipe, a mandrel bar or rolled out on a rolling.

On a folding machine at the ends of straight links, rolls protruding above the link surface by 7–8 mm are rolled out. They limit the depth of entry of one link into another and are stiffeners.

Knees are:

  • corrugated, made from a straight pipe link, which is bent using a press;
  • non-crimped, made of several pipe links.

To make a sweep, take a smooth knee with a slanting lower end cut off.

  1. Fastening of water intake funnels and downpipes is carried out using cornice and wall pins with brackets. The fastening strip of the eaves pin intended for fastening the funnel is bent and shortened so that the inlet of the funnel cone is 7-10 mm below the eaves overhang drip, and the stiffening roller of the funnel glass rests on the pin clamp.
  2. The fastening of the upper wall pin is carried out just below the upper transition knee, and the lower one - just above the mark. Additional pins are installed between them at regular intervals, if necessary. The pins are fixed on birch plugs that are hammered into the holes flush with the wall.

Working with punched iron does not require special skills and experience, therefore, a beginner in this business can get high-quality products from it. This requires an ornament or drawing and a minimum set of tools, which includes:

  • a hammer;
  • scissors for metal;
  • thickness gauge;
  • square;
  • ruler;
  • several cutters.

For metalwork, the thicknessing gauge is made in the form of a plate made of hardened steel. The tool has cutouts on both edges. With the help of a planer, marking lines are drawn parallel to the edges of the sheet.

The cross-sections should be of three types:

  • semicircular;
  • round;
  • straight lines.

Round sections are made from a hardened alloy steel tube having the required diameter. Their working part is well sharpened, and on the top there is a plug designed to hit it with a hammer. There is a hole in these sections that serves to remove fragments of material. The cross-sections are available in lengths of 150–180 mm.

Semicircular cross-sections can have different cross-sections: sloping, steep or medium. The working side is sharpened to a width of 3.5–30 mm. You can make a tool at home. To do this, remove the working part from a conventional chisel, and then give its back a semicircular shape using an emery wheel. At the edge of the same circle, the working part of the tool is performed, which is subsequently sharpened.

Simple chisels with a working edge width of 8 to 30 mm and a taper angle of 35 ° to 40 ° can serve as straight cuts.

Any necessary tool, including cuttings, can be made independently, provided that you have the skills of heat treatment of steel.

Usually for this type of work they take:

  • black;
  • roofing galvanized iron.

It is preferable to use black iron, since the pattern is more clearly distinguished on it after staining, blackening. However, this type of iron also has a drawback, which is that, unlike galvanized iron, it rusts rather quickly.

The cut-through pattern made on galvanized iron begins to "play" against the background of brick walls, as well as if the walls of the house and the roof are painted in dark colors.

Workplace preparation

Before starting work, you must carefully prepare the workplace:

  1. To do this, they find a beech or oak block and place it on a stable bench. The iron should be cut through on the top of the block.
  2. The tinsmith sits astride on the bench so that the block is between his legs.
  3. Small-sized goats are installed on the same level with the block on the right, and a table on the left. The table is designed for storing tools, and the trestle is necessary for the horizontal arrangement of long sheets of perforated threads.

Working process

How to make the holes provided for in a pre-prepared pattern:

  • first, markings are made on the surface to be cut using a square, a ruler and other tools;
  • then put the leaf on the block;
  • punches all holes with cuts, hitting them with a hammer.

The most difficult sections are made with semicircular cuts. The pattern, the pattern at the edges is cut out using metal scissors, and the inner one with straight cuts.

For punching small holes, in addition to the tools already listed, embossings may be needed.

Broken iron blackening

Broken iron is finished by oxidizing it, that is, blackening. Blackening is carried out using heating in an enamel bowl. However, it is important to note that it is rather difficult to blacken large-size cut plates.

Before blackening, the iron is pre-prepared: rust and scale are removed from it in the following solutions:

  • formalin - 2 parts;
  • 20% hydrochloric acid - 48 parts;
  • urotropin - 0.5 tablets; 20% hydrochloric acid - 0.5 l;
  • hydrochloric acid - 25 parts; sulfuric acid - 15 parts; urotropin - 0.06 parts;
  • water - 200 parts.
